New preamp tube for Valvestate

So my preamp tube finally blew in the old Valvestate. Right before a gig too. Anyway, I replaced it with a 12AX7 from Electro Harmonix. What a difference from the original Sovtek tube. This thing really snarls now, and the cleans are still good. On really high gain, it's like a giant Big Muff. Pretty cool. Thought I'd share that with you guys.

I did the same thing with my VS65R. Put an EH 12ax7, and got some major growl from the mids. A nice compliment.

hmm, interesting, i have an old avt150 ive had for years from when they first came out, maybe i should change out the preamp valve, i was under the impression that the valvestate was merely marketing ploy and that the valve didnt actually do anything :O.

I put a groove Tubes in mine and noticed a difference with more gain...

I had a 8080 valvestate. I also thought the tube was more ornamental than toneful? Oh well.:smack:

Nope...the tube actually makes a difference. The original was a Sovtek. The new EH just snarls so much more. I think I love the amp more than ever. It's a tank.

I wish I had a big muff in amp form! Wait I do... its called Bigmuff->eq->speaker sim. Congrats on finding new and awesome sounds!

Anyone know of a good preamp tube on the market for more of a delta blues sound on the clean channel while adding more definition to the OD channel?

I have an AVT50 that I would love to get more out of.
