ive had this neck and body sitting around for quite a while and ive been wanting to put it together so i decided to come here for some suggestions on pickups!.
first off its a jem neck, maple on maple with the pyramid inlays, and the body is a mahogany RG fixed bridge with a hum/hum setup.
ive been wanting to put some actives in it just because its going to be my around-the-computer type guitar and id like to keep the noise down however ive found that with the EMG's the tone didnt really change very much when i lowered the volume. it just wasnt cleaning up real well like say, a tonezone or something similar. so im curious if the new blackouts might fit the bill?
i play mostly rock/metal and im starting to get into country and blues so those are the types of tones id be looking to get out of a pickup.
the only thing that worries me too much is having an active in the neck, ive had actives in the neck positions in a few guitars and it just never really hits the tone i want. and its far too undefined between notes.
anyways if i could get a yay or nay on the blackouts, considering the wood types, or maybe a suggestion for a different setup then im more than happy to check out a different set.
