new project

hey everyone, i just purchased a jackson strat and am looking to improve its pickups, i want something that has a hard crunch and a high output that will sound heavy with distortion but something that will give me a bright clean sound as well. its set up H/H but i have to change a faulty switch to change anyhow so i am not against routering a middle spot for either a single coil or a humbucker. if anyone has any suggestions as to what i could use any help would be appreciated. thanks in advance!

Re: new project

welcome to the forum!!

high output crunch and bright clean are hard to get from the same pup so my suggestion is this...

put a duncan distortion in the bridge, lots of output, crunchy tone, killer distorted sound.
put a jazz in the neck, brighter clear articulate clean tone and nice smooth distorted tone

Re: new project

You might have those pickups in there already. I have a DK2, and replaced the Duncan Designed H102B with a real TB4. No difference.

Re: new project

How about a little more info on the Jackson strat? I'm a fan of Jacksons and know a little bit about them.

As far as the pickup choice, my first instinct was also the Distortion/Jazz. It'll give you everything you need. If you can split the pickups, all the better.

Re: new project

thanks for all the help anyhow, and i recently purchased it off a friend who had simply stopped using it after he purchased a tele. its stock with 2 duncan designed humbuckers, not sure exactly which specific model they are but after looking around and comparing im confident they are HB-102's aswell, floyd rose. i guess i have high standards from comparing everything to my strat but they seem a bit weak. the bridge bucker will give me something close the the heavy sound, but the bridge one just seems to not have the kick i want it to have.
