Just saw they are offering this beast for 2014. Looks awesome. Finally, they are catering to the metal crowd. Custom 24 with Floyd rose trem, flame maple neck and ebony fretboard. They are also offering their new \m/ metal ceramic pickups with this. Maybe my next guitar purchase. Anyone dig?

Re: New PRS Floyd custom 24

I wonder how much they are going o charge for these... I think it's a great move for them to make. A lot of people have been ordering Carvin CTs with floyds and this will help PRS attract a lot of those buyyers.... though the Carvins are still much more affordable.

Re: New PRS Floyd custom 24

cant find a price yet. i dont see them for sale yet anywhere either so we'll just have to wait. Neck thru body would be the icing on the cake for me

Re: New PRS Floyd custom 24

Probably priced similarly to the S2 series, since it seems to be made in Maryland as well. Since there's already a Custom 24 for $1400 without a Floyd in that lineup, I'd imagine a retail of $1600 or so.

Then again could be completely off :P

Re: New PRS Floyd custom 24

Now thats WTF i'm talking about. PRS just moved up on my list because of that. Now if they offer it on both the Custom 24 and SC models they will be at the top of my list.

Re: New PRS Floyd custom 24

i imagine it will be priced like a premium custom 24 at 4k

I'll probably get flamed for this but it seems this is a sellout. Mr. Smith is a traditionalist so this just seems like an attempt for market share. It was ok to do this with the SE line. The Torero to be exact. But why the regular line?

This seems more fitted to the S2 line. I hope I didn't ruffle too many feathers.

I imagine the Torero saw some success and they decided it was time to have a US model marketed to the metal crowd. I don't see anything wrong with this at all.

I dont either. nothing wrong with a flamed maple neck, or a floyd rose trem, and certainly nothing wrong with an ebony board.. They took an already awesome guitar and offer what is arguably "better" woods for particular styles (metal). Other than that, its still a "traditional" custom 24. Good job PRS!!

Honestly it still looks pretty traditional. Not like they made it pointy or added pinstripes or blood graphics to it. (Note to guitar companies: stop doing that)

Re: New PRS Floyd custom 24

After meeting PRS in person, I don't view him as a traditionalist. Every other upgrade/variation he promoted started with the phrase "we got this to sound the way we wanted." I would only assume the addition of a Floyd was based on a similar philosophy.

Re: New PRS Floyd custom 24

It's about time! Damn that thing looks SWEET! Oh, and about the "marketed to the metal crowd" and "traditional". Why do so many people think that if it has a vibrato on it, "especially a locking one" it is for metal. Strats have had vibratos on them from day one, dos that make them metal guitars, or not traditional? The PRS Custom 24 was far from "traditional" when it came out. Until then had anyone offered a 24 fret, double cut away, carved top? Jeff Beck uses the vibrato on his guitars rather extensively from very subtly to full out "dive bombs", as well as dos John Mclaughlin, and I certainly would not call them "Metal players"! Oh, and have you seen the bridges that Neal Schon has on his guitars?
It's all good! Just ranting.....LOL

We are calling it a metal guitar because of the high output "PRS metal" pickups it comes with.

the ones that have \m/ in the name and have it tattooed right on the ceramic pickup. They say right there that the pickups were designed with the metal community in mind. That, and maples necks, ebony boards and floyd rose tremolos are generally associated with metal guitars

Re: New PRS Floyd custom 24

I can REALLY get behind this guitar. PRS is finally looking to compete with Jackson, and ESP for the top rungs of the metal ladder. It looks like they did good all the way up to the fingerboard radius, I don't see anything stating they flattened it out. I know that more than the scale length or anything else the radius on my CU24 messed me up. I found it partciularly aggravating above the 12th fret. It only really got better with the guitar being tuned down a half step or more but, as we all know, that makes for a significantly different instrument all around. It wasn't mentioned so I guess they are using the same fret size, which I also think should be increased to a 6100 to adequately compete in the space.

I understand the Custom 24 was supposed to bridge the gap between Fender and Gibson, but after 30 years I think you can let it live and be it's own guitar not a bastard child of both worlds. I believe this to such an extent that Frank Falbo is Fixing PRS' mistakes by putting a compound radius and 6100s on it for me because I decided I wanted to finally have it be what I think it should be.
