New Pup for Alder/Maple Charvel...???

That's right, but I really am not into modern metal pickups. The most modern-sounding pickup I own is a Custom5, and I don't find it to be that modern...

I find it wonderful how different ears can hear different things, even untrained one like mine.

The Alnico II Pro remains my favorite pickup, though.

Do you know what's under the hood, have you measured the pots and seen the cap?

Before I ever go pickup swapping, I always like to know for sure what the 'big picture' of the whole circuit is.

Maybe you got a rogue reading volume pot or something.

I do not,,.. well not exactly yet,. I'm assuming (yeah I know..) that it's a 500k/500k set up. I run my controls wide open, but I have some Bourn Pots coming from Mouser today so I'm thinking about going with a 500k Vol pot w/Detent and a 250k tone to maybe "tone" it down a bit (See what I did there!?! :D ) .... of course I will double check the existing electronics and see what they've got going on... maybe some yahoo at the factory put a 1M pot in there or some thing :D ... I feel like somethings going on with the Super Switch as well so I disconnected the coil taps for both pickups just to make sure... I felt like even when I was in the #1/Bridge position notch on the switch that I was still picking up some faint single coil sound over the top... :grumble:

The video recording I did had the Coil taps unhooked btw

I know Jeff from a good while back on our own forum. He makes great pups and has fantastic attention to detail.

Alder strat + maple neck doing 80's hair and classic rock?

SH-5 Custom

Custom a lil too bright with a Floyd?

SH-11 Custom Custom

I do have a Spare custom one from Jeff ( 8.9k, Asymmetrical wound, A6 mags) I have that in a few of my Kramer Focus 3000's (Alder, Maple/Rosewood, Floyd w/Brass block, 500k vol./250k tone) .. I may throw it in along with the new FU Bridge and see how it fairs... I originally had him make those for my older Multi-ply body Kramer Striker as it was a fairly dark guitar,... but we'll see.

Once I see how that one sounds I may reach out to him on another custom wound one that will combat the tonality of this guitar and compliment it :)
