New Quad in SLX

I put some E34L's in my SLX today, a new quad.

I previously had it biased for the SED EL34's that were in it. The 50-70% dissipation window, using the plate voltage and bias equation, gave me settings of 25mA - 35mA. I figured I would just test how hot the bias would be without touching the bias pot, which one would usually turn down as much as the pot could go prior to installing new tubes.

With my bias tool in place I snapped the SLX on.

There it was:

OH CHRISTMAS TREE, OH CHRISTMAS TREE... :arms: :arms:

...very brightly lit E34L tubes that measured a bias of 49mA.

Smokin' hot !!! Always check your bias. ;)

Where'd you get the bias tool? How much do those usually cost? Is yours specifically for EL34's?

Re: New Quad in SLX

I got mine from the SRS Webstore on Ebay some years ago, Mr. GT.

I have a dual 8 pin, which will take care of EL34/6L6 tubes.

You don't need the dual socket bias tool. A single socket will do the trick. :)
