NEW - Richard Fortus of Guns & Roses Signature Voodoo Amps R-4

From Summer NAMM '16 in Nashville - The brand spanking new Voodoo Amps R-4: the signature amp of Richard Fortus, formerly of The Dead Daisies and current (and longtime) guitarist with Guns & Roses. You'll see some pedals in the video - They're off unless specifically noted. Richard is a noted pedal aficionado so this amp takes pedals extremely well!!! The Boss DD6 Delay is in the tube effects loop. The amp in this video is now on tour with G&R in stadiums around the US!

MAP on this amp is $3299

BTW - the hum you may hear is something to do with the power - these amps run dead quiet.

Pickups are Seymour Duncan JB (Bridge), Classic Stack (Middle) and Vintage Stack (Neck).

Enjoy!!!

The video shows for me, both Safari and Firefox

Re: NEW - Richard Fortus of Guns & Roses Signature Voodoo Amps R-4

I was watching an interview in youtube where Trace was interviewing him about the amp. Was gonna put it up, but I couldn't find any actual deets on the amp.

I have to say one thing.. Trace is a genius with amps, but I always get annoyed when he does these interviews with artists. He often cuts them off or tries to finish sentences for them and such.. Let em talk!! rant over.. ; )

Also, he said he is playing with a diff band now. Maybe the Dead Daisies. Says its more of a classic rock vibe.

The who signature what amp? $3300 to sound like a guy who's filling in for Slash by a company nobody's ever heard of? You could get 3 JCM800s with $3300.

I've never heard one of of these awful phone videos that actually sounded good.

I've heard of Voodoo - was actually looking at them to mod up my JVM.

I've heard of Rich Fortus and his involvement with that band running around with Axl calling themselves G'N'R. I've never actually heard him play.

For $3300 that would ge me most of the way to a Friedman. I'd rather have that, I think.

Re: NEW - Richard Fortus of Guns & Roses Signature Voodoo Amps R-4

Ten times out of ten I'd go with a Voodoo over a Friedman. Friedman makes a great sounding amp, to me the Voodoo amps just feel better to play on. Not one person I know who's played on one disagrees, and I talked to a lot of people at NAMM after playing on 'em. That said, if ya dig the Friedman amps, grab one, they're a great company.

I love the smell of spam and eggs in the morning.
Nice work chef Noisenet.

A great sounding amp is a great sounding amp. This is the amps section, no?

Re: NEW - Richard Fortus of Guns & Roses Signature Voodoo Amps R-4

No one's 'filling in for' Slash as he's been back with G&R for a while.

The object isn't to sound like anyone, it's simply a great sounding amp. Just as not many people plug into a 5150 and immediately sound like Eddie. Same deal here.

Richard's actually a killer player. Check out his stuff with The Dead Daisies. He can play. Very well.

Regarding being able to buy 3 JCM800's for this price, yeah you probably can. And the JCM800 is a great amp. But for my money they can't touch these amps.

BTW - regarding the 'spam and eggs' comment, not sure how this post could be considered spam as I don't work for (nor am I paid by) Voodoo. They're great amps and I like to share things that I believe are great. My apologies if I've offended anyone or given the impression of being a spammer.

Voodoo's mods on Marshalls are fantastic, I have three of em - both a DSL and TSL 100 with a custom mod (the Senes mod) and a JMP-1 Preamp with their Platinum mod - all sound fantastic and orders of magnitude better than their stock counterparts. Until NAMM a few weeks ago I thought those were the best an amp could possibly sound.

The Voodoo branded amps (their ground-up designs) just have that extra something, I can't quite put my finger on it. They just feel better to play on.

They're expensive but find me a boutique amp that's not expensive.

Glad to hear that you're happy with their mods! I was thinking of getting their Standard mod or the Deluxe mod on my JVM210H

When you say the amps feel better, are you referring to touch response, dynamics, natural compression... ? I'm curious as to how they compare to a Friedman. Friedmans just feel very - "organic" to me, very pure tonally with no offending frequencies and very, very rich harmonics. Not stiff at all, very very yielding to input but also a very tight response on the low end as well.

My thing with Friedman is this... you'll try out 10 old JCM800s, 2 of them will be dogs, 7 will sound pretty OK in various degrees and then maybe one out of those 10 sounds awesome and then it'll require some careful tube selection to get it dialed. EVERY Friedman is like that but more refined. better EQ, better FX loops, etc.

Boutique amps are all expensive, yes, but when you find THAT one, it's so worth it.

I'll check out Voodoo's brand amps if I ever find one, for sure.

Given that you have spent very little time here, and your only two threads are advertising Voodoo amps, it sure looks like spam.
If you had come clean at the start and said something like...,"my friend started a company and i want to show you what they do" or "i started building amps, please check them out" then yeah no problem. But you just posing as a fan is pretty lame, your hyperbole is way too far gone for that and reads exactly like informercial copy.

Great question, I'll try to explain the best I can but it's a little difficult as feel is such an intangible. The way Trace Davis, the owner of the company puts it, he likes an amp to make a set of 10 gauge strings feel like 9's. I was always pretty skeptical of this claim, who wouldn't be, but after doing NAMM with them I gotta say I see where he's coming from. It doesn't really make 'em feel more slinky or anything, just easier to play on.

I've always been a high gain type of player. With the Voodoo stuff I actually find myself not needing as much gain. The Mid-Drive is my favorite of their models. It's not super high gain, by any standard, but between what gain it DOES have and the tone of the amp, whatever components he uses and just the Voodoo of the amp (pun intended LOL) it just feels amazing to play on.

harmonically these amps are ridiculously responsive. On the Mid Drive video I posted I tried to demonstrate that, it does come through but at the super low NAMM police approved volume we had to keep it they might not have come through as prominently as I'd have liked. Check it out though, I think you'll see what I mean.

Regarding your boutique statement - bingo! You hit the nail 10000% on the head! I really feel that way about the Voodoos. I'd like to have 'em all as I can see a use I'd have for each one LOL! But I'm too far from rich to make that happen!

Wow, nice assumption LOL. I WISH I built these amps (heck, I wish I could build any amp). As for (my friend started a company), Trace is my friend. We became friends as a result of his work. I had bought an amp with one of his mods, liked it and contacted him for some info. Friendship grew from that. Not the other way around.

Perhaps before making assumptions and claims that these two are my only threads, check my other posts. While I don't have nearly the number of posts on here as you a quick run through of my posts will show that there are more than two threads. Disclaimer: there ARE some other Voodoo related posts, mods I've had done over the years to my Marshalls. Because they sound good and I like sharing things that sound good. Some folks appreciate seeing new gear options they hadn't otherwise heard of. I know I do and have bought gear based on others' posts to forums like this one and, as such, find them very helpful. Isn't that the whole point of online forums? Again, if you don't wanna see the posts, don't click on em. Simple, everyone happy :-)
