New RTAS drum machine: Strike

Re: New RTAS drum machine: Strike

I knew you'd say that. I think they're comparable in terms of sample quality, but Strike's interface wins hands down. Listen to the clip demonstrating the Complexity setting - DFHS has nothing like that.

Re: New RTAS drum machine: Strike

Well it only has nothing like that because you actually program in each and every drum hit - you are the complexity setting.

With this it appears you just choose a tempo, style, and 'complexity' and let it go.

Ah these aren't the same. Strike is an actual drum machine that just sounds super realistic, wheras DFHS is more of a drummer replacement tool.

you have to realize something....if Jeff doesn't own it and use it or it costs more than he is willing to spend...it sucks!!! LOL

Jeff....just bustin' your balls bro :)

Re: New RTAS drum machine: Strike

Nah I just didn't realize these are two way different products, marketed towards very different people.

Strike actually looks badass for what it is - a drum machine. It looks like an awesome tool, similar to Apple's loops or something, with much more flexibility, and designed to run in ProTools. (Notice no mention of an AU component or VST?)

DFHS is more designed for people who need more flexibility in their drumtracks, whether they're plugging in an electric set and triggering sounds themselves, or using it to write their own drumtracks via midi grids.

If I wasn't so damned picky about my drums, Strike would be perfect.

As far as compared to BFD, which is more like DFHS in it's nature of programming beats in yourself, it probably sounds a lot better, and doesn't eat as many resources.

Re: New RTAS drum machine: Strike

Looks good and something I could really use. I wonder how it compares to EZdrummer. Since its made by Digi it'll be even better since you won't have to worry about VST wrapping it since the RTAS version won't suck.

Re: New RTAS drum machine: Strike

I like it because the interface is more akin to what you would tell an actual skin beater to do ("loosen up the timing, simplify the beat here, make it more complex here, etc."). DFHS is more like programming a computer to play drums. Different ways of getting the same result.

Re: New RTAS drum machine: Strike

this looks completely different from dfhs.
for example i would never be able to use this because i need my beats to be programmed a specific way and to do very specific things.
this is more like if you want a groove or a beat and you arent as picky and you dont know a whole lot about drums, as the last guy said, you tell the drummer the kinda feel or beat you want and let them play it. definitely looks badass, just not something i could make use of!

Re: New RTAS drum machine: Strike

After reading up on the "Strike" program, I have to agree with Jeff & bulb that it looks like "DKFH for the rhythmically challenged..." Looks like I could totally dig DFH Superior though & only $300 (not that $300 is pocket change or anything). I would've thought it would be more!

I thought the DFH Superior samples sounded a lot more realistic, but that makes sense since they were unique beats rather than generic drum machine "loopy" beats.

Re: New RTAS drum machine: Strike

what i think/hope for their sake they will start to do is create a shell program that controls and creates beats but uses any sample set you want it with for example dfhs, so you can have the dfhs sound but not have to spend 3 million years learning how to program it haha!

Re: New RTAS drum machine: Strike

You guys are missing a main point in all this. Who cares about comparing it to DKFH as its not meant to be like it. This is designed specifically for RTAS in Pro Tools. A lot of times us Pro Tools guys have to VST wrap an RTAS native plugin to make it work correctly in Pro Tools. Since digi is designing it, it will run perfectly.

Re: New RTAS drum machine: Strike

This board is funny. Once a certain piece of gear gets under people's skin, it's pretty hard to convince them something else out there might possibly perhaps be better for some people.

Maybe I'll go into Amp Central and make a thread about how stock DS-1's are better than modded ones, just for fun. Or better yet, go into The Guitar Shop and make a thread about how much I hate Jackson/Charvel :)

Please note before you kill me: I don't actually think stock DS-1's are better, and I don't actually hate J/C ... except the wankcasters.
