New Slash Gibson Les Paul

Re: New Slash Gibson Les Paul

Why are the specs f'd up? Slash's most sought after Les Paul was ghost built and it was based on a '59 LP. Why does this signature model have a weight relieved body and a 60's style neck, it doesn't make sense?

I agree.. And yeah the graphic on the headstock is less guady than the chicken foot one... At least with this one, you could cover it. I used to have a Trans black Epi Ace frehley model. I used to put black electricaL tape over the Frehley face on the headstock when I played at church..

Re: New Slash Gibson Les Paul

Better than the Chickenfoot...

That's exactly ehat I thought. If I was to ever trade into a Chicken foot model and like the actual guitar, I would rip that junk offa there.

This Slash model is kinda cool cause it's the gold leaf under the finnish. It's just a bit more classy, although not much, (this coming from Dixie's owner) I could live with it cause it aint as gaudy as that silver chicketfoot B.S..

Re: New Slash Gibson Les Paul

IMO, it's a FAIL.

That guitar brought Les Pauls back from almost extinction, so it needs more attention to detail in the selection of the maple top. Gibson hand picked pieces of maple to replicate the Billy Gibbons replica. Gibson should've done their best to hand pick pieces of maple that were between flame and quilt for the Appetite guitar. I think Michigan maple was used on the original as the same grain appears on some of the early PRS McCarty's, Carlos Santana's first PRS, and even Heritage Guitars is able to get some for their Les Paul copies upon request.

Without that special top, to me it's just a Les Paul Standard with SD Alnico II's, special caps, and in no way resembles the AFD Les Paul.

Just my two cents. Maybe I'm just being an*l because Slash's AFD Les Paul from Guns n Roses at the Ritz made me want to pick up guitar and buy a Les Paul.

Re: New Slash Gibson Les Paul

It's really not a bad headstock graphic. While I like the body of the chickenfoot one better, this guitar is not bad at all.

Re: New Slash Gibson Les Paul

Plain and simple:

A GIBSON REPLICA OF A REPLICA OF A GIBSON.

And no nods to Max or Derrig by Gibson. :gurmpy:

And this erks me.
"and the big riffs of "Welcome to the Jungle," "Paradise City," and "Sweet Child O' Mine" fired up the airwaves across the globe—riffs fueled by the most powerful rock tool of all time: a Les Paul."

Even though Slash may not have been the only guy slinging a LP type guitar
at the time, he was still in the top 5 if not top 3 influences. Which made a lot of guys put down their shredders and pick up an LP again.
And it was the Max and Derrig guitars that did it on AFD LP and Tour.
Heck, Gibson didn't even have a Historic out at the time.

Re: New Slash Gibson Les Paul

The head stock is still OK, but i really do NOT like that fin.

Best Slash sig LP thus far (for me) was the old Tabacco Burst model.
Now that was a classy Les Paul.

Re: New Slash Gibson Les Paul

I would not play a signature guitar anyways. I know it's psychological and has nothing to do with rational thinking, and I have come to terms with that. I just don't get inspired to find my own sound, and play my own way, when I see someone's name or logo on my instrument.

Nice top though, lol.

Yeah but Phil...The Robert Cray Strat and The Muddy Waters Tele get some special appointments for being a MIM guitar. They play and sound really great!

Re: New Slash Gibson Les Paul

For the same reason the AFD Marshall is going to be based on a JCM800 instead of what it should be based on.

???? It wasn't a JCM800??? I'm a big fan of Slash's sound, can you explain some more, please?

Re: New Slash Gibson Les Paul

If I was filthy rich, I would have 3 Les Pauls - Slash AFD LP, Slash 2004 LP with Piezo, and ZW Bullseye.

Well...make it 6, I need a 56 Goldtop (P-90's), a 59 in Heritage Cherry Burst, and a Neal Schon model in Iced Tea.
