New slide clip

I record a lot of the stuff I play, including when I'm messing around. Today I felt like making a clip, so here it is. Recorded with a gateway mic, bare fingerpicking with a dunlop glass slide on a plywood Hamox Japanese guitar.

It's a bit sloppy, but I think it sounds alright. I figured the first song out about three days ago and I learned amazing grace last weekend (after listening to Rod Stewart).

Any critique will be appreciated, but please understand that since I've entered college, my playing has tapered off a bit.

*Edit
BTW, I have a tendancy to simplify the songs I play. Don't know why, but that's how they end up (in case you were wondering)

Hey man that's some totally greasy swamp music! I love it. I felt like I was in that movie "Southern Comfort". Very cool.

Thanks. I've been working on not being aware of the mic by recording everything I do (this is an example of me just kind of playing). Unfortunately I still get a bit self conscious mid performance.

BTW, I'm from minnesota :laugh2:

Re: New slide clip

I like the warmup clip, too. Are you doing open tunings? Sounds very cool.
Thanks,
I'm better at open tunings than I am at standard, so my clips are generally in open tunings. The warming up clip is actually me going at a Johnny Winter song Evil On My Mind from the album Third Degree and is in open G. The newest clip is in a minor tuning similar to open D except there is an F instead of an F#.
Very nice!

Thanks, slide is what got me into music.

Re: New slide clip

Cory find some local blues guys that play slide and watch them for a few gigs, seeing and hearing it in peron makes a huge difference in trying to learn it. Then find a slide you are comfortable with and practice getting some good clear, simple phrases togheter.

I had a lot of success using an open D tuning when learning but whatver makes sense to you.

Sounds really great.I like the soul in it ,and the "hidden" tempo is amazing!I like the rythm parts as well!great job bro!

Re: New slide clip

Thanks guys

I listened to my own clip and decided that amazing grace wasn't too good and redid it :smack:

Anyway, I appreciate the positive feedback but don't be afraid to criticize either.

As far as learning, I don't really know. I learned through listening a lot. I've even had tableture in front of me and videos in front of me and the thing that I learned from was the audio. Actually, the Cypress Grove song is my take from a DVD by Bob Brozman. The DVDs were supposed to be instructional, but I ended up listening to the songs and learning by ear and not really watching them as much.
