New Song: Something Simple!

Re: New Song: Something Simple!

I dig it! The vocals could be mixed a little higher or with something to make em' poke out a bit. You have some real delicate and challenging melodic ideas that I think should be bold and bright.

Drums are phenomenal as usual... your beat ideas are always just soooo damn fresh.

1:57-2:10 needs the distorted part a little louder but duck it back down when the vocals come in.

I'm not sure about the chromatic downward slide for "gravity is letting you go" from 2:52-2:55... I have heard you do that before and I would encourage you to cut it out of your singing, it is just too dissonant and destroys the melodic impact the part could have because it is a real focal point of the whole message.

MORE OF YOUR LEAD PLAYING because it is GREAT!!!!!

Just get those vocal ideas bold and out front though... be confident in your ideas...

But... if you are one of those "indie" guys and are intentionally making your stuff sound murky and unsure... rethink what you are doing because you may be pleasing some hipster critics but you are screwing your melodies with their delivery.

Your melodies are top notch and they should resonate with the listener after they hear the song instead of being undefined and indistinct enough to not break through the consciousness of the casual and non trained listener.

Love what you do and want to see you succeed Marc!!! :)

Zen,

Thanks for the feedback. I redid the vox more confidently. Let me know your thoughts

Re: New Song: Something Simple!

The guitars are out of tune with both themselves and the keyboard pads. This may be deliberate, in the manner of Brian Eno solo albums of the mid Seventies. It may just be intonation issues.

IMO, the keyboard and percussion parts work well as they are. The guitar parts are getting in each other's way. The song might come across better with a less cluttered arrangement.

Thanks for the feedback! I appreciate the honesty. I took out one of the guitar parts and one of the synth parts in hopes to clean up things a bit.
