New songwriting demo #3 -- ENTHRONED

TwilightOdyssey

Darkness on the edge of Tone

Edit: This is an updated mix.

ENTHRONED
The princes of the serpent throne
Feed on the carcass of mankind
They rape your lands then lick their bloodied hands
While they crush and break your minds

All their words are bitter wormwood
Their benevolence slavery
All their truths are cunning falsehoods
Their religion blasphemy

The overseers of the snake lord
Lash the back of humanity
They get their kicks as they count the licks
And bring ruin to the sky and sea

All their love is domination
Their concern insincerity
All their pledges are hidden daggers
Their compassion cruelty

And the jackboot marches on
Lockstep with subjugation
Fires of tyranny burn the songs
And erase the memory of fallen nations

The iron throne
The godless seat
The broken flesh
The bloodied streets
Enthroned

Love the groove here bro.

This will sound crazy, but I think this track needs keys.Something menacing.

I really like it, but IMOHU i think the vocalist (while not my favorite) would benfit from some effects. His voice isn't bad but it just comes thru "too" clear.
Maybe a touch of reverb and/or slight delay would fill out his range. But,
WTF am I, if it's working for you, rock on.:headbang:

Peace,

Darrin

Thanks for listening. Glad you dig it. This is a songwriting demo, so there will be very little work done to the mix at this point aside from some rides and corrective EQ here and there. We're not big on effects on the vox. There is verb on everything and you would hear it if I took it outs but that's the point of it. If you can notice it, it's too much, imo ... or it's the '80s! :)

PJ is a woman :)

Holy cow! I hear it now, I just thought it was
Geddy Lee's younger brother.:lmao: She still needs
some work IMO. More forceful maybbe. IDK.
I'm just a schmuck who is a rockstar in my house.

Peace,

Darrin

No worries, it's definitely not everyone's cup of tea, and not your typical/expected female vox.

Another I enjoy greatly. This is road trip music, but in a black 69 Charger... It feels a bit evil, a bit dreamy, and a a bit meditative. This is the kind of tune that requires giant headphones with a coil cord, plugged into the Hi Fi.... Love it!

Now personally, I want that synth exaggerated Angel style on the break. Full on space ship style as the exit builds. That synth is supposed to take me to the nether regions of outer space. Let that shizzle fly fly and fly....

Thanks for the great comments, Kev. I really like that idea on the synth part and will probably incorporate it into the album version, should this song make the cut ...

By the way, your Cpt Beyond reference is pretty much spot on!! :) Thanks a million for that one!

Listening now- I love the chewy "jig jig" tone you are getting here on the main riff. Are those the BK Mules? I also love how you've backed off from the 80s shred tones to these lower gain "raunchy" tones Ben (of course it fits the music better, but just from one player to another).

Going back to listen to the original.

Oh yeah , re-mix is much better to my ears, its just more in your face without losing that raw mid 70s sound.

My 3mo old girl seems to be enjoying it as well, here on my knee as I tap my foot :D

The A4 Mule in the right guitar is probably my all-time favourite rock tone, but this song required something a lot less refined. This is my R1 SG, stock pickups > BB Preamp > Sweetback Driver

You know, Jeff, it's real funny -- I got a LOT of ppl to buy Splawns after I started playing them, and then evolved right out of em. :) I still love the Splawn for what it does, but I agree -- it's totally inappropriate for this music.

The interesting part is that my actual playing style has had to evolve with the tone -- when I listen back to my earliest demos with the new band, I cringe -- the solos are just awful. It's taken a long time to develop a different touch, slow down the speed, nix the pinch harmonics and tapping, and go more for bending/vibrato less-is-more approach (well, less for MY playing at any rate! LOL).

Going back to listen to the original.

HA! I need to get a video of my 3 year old jamming out to this song, especially when it gets to the solo section! Hilarious!

My wife summed up the difference between TO and PI thusly: Not as melodic as Twilight, but way more emphasis on mood and groove. And heavy as all get out! (In the classic sense, heavy like faaar ooout, maaan not heavy like it is today; teh br000talz)
