New (sort of) amp & cab day - Mesa content

Prayin' to Cheeses
I converted my Mesa 5:50+ combo into a head, and got a 1x12 extension cab from Stone Age Custom Cabinets

John from Stone Age is a super nice guy, he spent a lot of time making sure the 1x12 cab details matched my head (grille, piping, tolex, etc.). He also made this one into a slant for me - a 1x12 with a slight slant so I can hear it better on stage. I put the Celestion Black Shadow from my combo into this cabinet and it sounds GREAT. John builds his cabs so they can be close back, partially open, or mostly open depending on what you want.

This cab sounds much bigger to me than the combo did and has great bass clarity and punch. Very happy with the results.

As a follow-on comment, I now have an Express 5:50+ combo shell which I don't know what to do with. I'd like to sell it, I guess I should put that up in the Trading Post... has the spring reverb and it's a very, very nice shell.

Good looking stack you got there! Congrats! However, if it were me, for the money the combo will bring, I'd rather keep it in case you ever want to sell the amp. Always easier in original conditions IMO.

Yeah, I thought about keeping it but then I considered my wife's reaction.... :butkick:

What do you mean? Isn't it an empty combo cab (ok, maybe with a speaker in it if you didn't use it in the 1x12, I'm not certain about this) for which you didn't pay a thing or am I missing something? Or is it just that she expects you to reduce the hit of the conversion buy selling the empty cab? I'm aware that not every wife is like mine and doesn't care what I do with my money when it comes to gear but having a piece of gear around for which you didn't pay a dime shouldn't have you sleeping in the dog-house no? Again, I may be missing something.

It's more just a space issue for her, and also me wanting it to go to a good home where it will get used by someone who needs it.
