New Strat w multi pickup wiring scheme choices via "SD" Card

Has anyone seen this yet? Seems pretty innovative and useful. The pickups themselves are solderless connections for easy pup swaps.

My one concern is that it's not clear whether these are SD cards or a proprietary memory card type. It'd be best if they were and the code for how to write your own custom wiring scheme was open-source , vs. limiting us to only the schemes Fender chooses to offer and us having to pay for it each time. I have a pessimistic guess as to what the answer to those questions are.

They aren't SD cards - if they were the cavity would only be slightly bigger than an SD card, or even better it would have an SD card slot. But AFAIK (and this is just a guess) it's not actually digital, which means you can't "program" them.

While I like the idea of being able to program your own wiring scheme, (a la the Music Man Gamechanger) to do it at a decent price point they would likely have to make it digital, which 90% of guitarists DO NOT want.

Saw these at NAMM. Nothing digital there, and each card has 4 small switches on there for different sounds. What they do is rewrite the electronics. Fender is testing solder-less pickups too, so you can switch them out quickly. They are also working on a solderless cables to attach to any pickup to use with their system.

It's not digital. The personality card is a really good idea actually. I love the one where it turns what would normally be a tone pot into a mid boost.
