I agree with the Warmoth recommendation. Don't rush your build/design, and don't hesitate to contact Warmoth directly to see if there are other options available (lots available on the build/design virtual selections - and many already built bodies/necks available off the shelf). If you go to the ready for purchase section of existing bodies and necks you will find some very reasonable prices - and of course some designs/wood/additions that look pretty cool. I recommend you go "chambered" as the few I've ordered and built are noticeably lighter in weight than the normal electric guitar...and with just a few exceptions there are no feedback issues. If you play on stage lots at high volume, gain, and with effect pedals then might be best to not go chambered. Others may feel differently so ask around. Double binding is hard to find when you design the build.....but you might find that style available off the shelf there. You should enjoy the process of building your own. If you are going to use humbuckers instead of tele pickups, my best experience so far has been with the SD Concept Set. Of course the Tele Zephrys (humbuckers too) will do very well for you. The Concept Set really projects a vintage sound, whereas the Zephrys project incredible clarity.....kind of like HD TV......but for a guitar. For the most part I've ordered 7.25 radius necks and my guitar tech has always been able to adjust the action pretty low without fret buzz, etc. They have a wide range of necks, and if you do not go completely vintage you will have even more options ("wizard" which is ultra thin neck, and you can also add binding, and some really nice inlays on your fret board). I'm kind of a vintage guy when it comes to guitars so I go "fatback" for the neck (which is a large C style and the thickest they make), 7.25 radius, and almost always chambered body.

GOOD LUCK!

Re: new telecaster build

The typical vintage tele is Ash body/1 piece maple neck. Any wood can have binding on it, but the tele era that came with binding is early 60's. This tends to be Alder for the body.

If you want to go a little unusual you could always build your version of an Andy Summers tele.
