New to Forum. Mag Mic question.

Hi Everyone, I'm not a guitar player, I'm an amplifier builder. I'm trying to fault find a friends amplification problem. He uses a Mag Mic.
I know from reading dozens of threads on this forum that the question of millivolts is a touchy subject and I understand all the arguments, but I like to know a starting point in the signal chain.
Using my oscilloscope, I measure approx 100mV gentle strum, to 250mV which nearly takes my fingernails off. All I'm asking is, "is this somewhere in the region of what I should be getting or not". It doesn't seem a million miles away from certain threads I've read, but my guitar playing friend thinks it should be much higher than that. His reasoning is that it has an inbuilt pre-amp. I'm wondering if it has less windings on the coils and it needs the pre-amp to get the average 200mV.
I'm not looking for accuracy here.. just need to know if it's in the ballpark. If it should read much higher (700mV) it would be good to know.
Thanks in advance.

Re: New to Forum. Mag Mic question.

That sounds about right. Voltage readings I've observed on a 'scope with a "normal" humbucker have been in the 350 mv range, with instantaneous peaks hitting 1 volt. But that was slamming a chord.

Also, I'm guessing that the preamp is more of a buffer than a voltage amp. It may be at unity gain.

No prob. And welcome to the forum. Let us know how it turns out.
