New to the Forum-question about JB Antiquity/custom shop

Im new here on the forum but definitely not new to SD pickups (been using them for 25 years).

I have a 2003 Fender HW1 Strat HSS that I want to customize. I realize that long-legged pickups don't work very well in these (?). I really think that a JB Antiquity would be perfect for this guitar however, they have the long legs and single conductor cable (want to coil tap).

Is it true that Long-legged PUPs don't fit in strats?

Im thinking that a custom ordered JB Antiquity Trembucker with a 4 conductor cable and white bobbins would look and sound amazing in this axe. thoughts? I DO have a few MJ Wound 80s SD's lying around but im saving those for other super strats that I may acquire in the future.

Sounds more like a Custom Floor model, if you dont need reliced bobbins.

It's only about $10 to get a custom shop pup. Just order one how you want it from MJ.

Or send in an old JBJ and she can put short legs on it for you.

Sure long-legged humbuckers fit; you'll need to cut most mounting screws short, but the long legs themselves are fine on my US Strat.

thanks for the tips folks.

I guess my main thing for going the custom antiquity way is that i definitely want that vintage JB tone but in a Trembucker spacing. I think it would look really cool in all white as well. My HW1 has that "hot rodded" late 70s strat look and i plan on even doing some more changes to the aesthetics of it as well. I will save the JBJ's for other guitars.

Can the Antiquity come as a Trembucker? I think the ask here is custom shop only, no?

your probably right, they only come in standard spacing. I guess what i REALLY want/need is a JB Trembucker that is made in the same way as the Antiquity (RC A5 mag, aged bobbins, etc) but with short legs and all white bobbins. It would really match what i am going for in this strat build i have planned.

Re: New to the Forum-question about JB Antiquity/custom shop

My guess is that a Trembucker Antiquity JB would certainly be a Custom Shop thing. If it is a Custom Shop pickup, though, they will make it any way you want. You can alter the specs any way you want. Talk to MJ, she will build you something truly wonderful.

Would it even really be an "Antiquity" at that point? Seems like Seymour had something specific in mind when you watch the videos of him talking about the idea of the Antiquity series.

Then again, outside of the magnet selection, isn't most of the remainder about the "relic" look?

Re: New to the Forum-question about JB Antiquity/custom shop

Well, I am not sure if it would be classified as an 'Antiquity' but that doesn't matter. You are kind of creating a pickup that existed in an alternate past (said in a scary g-g-g-ghost voice)

Re: New to the Forum-question about JB Antiquity/custom shop

After watching the 35th Aniv VS JB Antiquity VS Modern garden variety JB youtube video about 50 times, I have decided to go with this:

35th Aniv style JB (RC A5, etc)
Trembucker spacing
white bobbins
no Logo

The JB Antiquity has a little clunky/honk/mechanical noise that I didn't really like under the high gain setting on the video. just my 2 cents.

Let us know how it sounds when it is installed in your guitar!
