New Valveking

Re: New Valveking

It's like they're trying to make a Swiss Army knife out of it, when all that's needed is some simplicity. The old version wasn't such a bad amp (I gigged one for a few years), and if they could have smoothed it out overall they'd have a solid piece of gear on the cheap. Instead they added more bells and whistles without addressing the real issues with it.

Re: New Valveking

Peavey has always built in much more tweakability than the average end user needs. This makes them a trick to dial in, because as on certain Mesa amps, you can easily get into trouble with settings that are too high. That said, I could get my sounds on with one after five minutes of listening and dialing, and then it would be just fine...the rest is up to me anyway.

I agree with you, yet many of their competitors are adding more features onto their amps also. I think adding some of these features was a good way to stay competitive with the market.

I imagine the tone is going to be different on these at least a little bit from the previous versions. I am particularly interested to see how the smaller ones sound with the el84 tubes. I hope at the least they put better speakers in them. The stock speakers with the last valveking combos and cabs really held the amp back.

Re: New Valveking

Hartley Peavey is all about good price. I told my friend he only needs about 15-20 watts (to get a good gig sound he could practice with at home,) but even at that wattage, the Valveking is more affordable. So it's really the go-to amp for band members on skid row salaries ( like me). I'd be curious to know how many times a First Act rig or Line6 has been traded in twd a Valveking.
