New Warmoth LP!

Already posted this on the Unofficial Warmoth forum an TGP, so I'm sorry if you're seeing this one twice. But I'm still so damned excited to finally have this one all together! And I've gotta say, it plays great! It might not sound like a big all-mahogany LP (mine has no mahogany at all), but it does sound great! Its been in the works for a long time, but totally worth it.

Body: Black korina body with a two piece maple cap
thin one piece maple veneer

Neck: maple neck with ebony fretboard
ebony peghead veneer

Pickups: SD '59 neck in the bridge and a Seth Lover neck model in the neck. The 59 sounds really good in the bridge, despite it being designed for the neck position. Great balance between these two pickups. A wiring kit from RS Guitarworks.

Pictures!

Couldn't be happier! Like the Warmoth addict that I am I had already started to plan my next build, but now I don't know what the hell I want! This thing covers a whole lot of bases. Looks like my next purchase better be an amp to keep up!

Also, the finish really changes depending on the angle and the light. I'll try to get out my real camera and get some decent shots sometime soon, but it's sunny for the first time in a few days, so I decided I'd better get some pictures now. Hope you enjoy!

Re: New Warmoth LP!

I'm not a Les Paul guy, but still...

DAAAAAAAAAAMMMMMMNNNNNNNNNNN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Simply awesome!

Re: New Warmoth LP!

First off, beautiful guitar. Love the finish and top. Is that their Honeyburst finish?

Hehe, I use the Montag guitar builder as well. Fun stuff. Wish there was a way to save.

Question about the neck: was that neck to headstock joint (sorry I forget the name of that technique) by special request or is that just the way it came? I ask, because I didn't think Warmoth did their necks like that. I lurk on their site way too much and I've never seen a neck with that joint before (in their pre-made ones at least).

Is the body chambered or solid?

Warmoth says that black korina is like mahogany but with added mids. Would that be a fair description from the sound of your guitar? I know it's hard to speak for all black korina. Have you used a mahogany bodied guitar with maple neck before? Just curious about the comparison to mahogany. Black korina is intriguing but I haven't seen any guitars locally that use it to know what it sounds like.

Sorry for all the questions. Congrats!

Re: New Warmoth LP!

I can attest to the korina description. I have 4 korina les pauls ;)

The neck joint or actually the heel, is a standard feature kn their carved top les paul.

That top... Lovely! I have a thing for 1 piece tops. Got 4 of them. 2 were a gift of Ken if i recall correctky.

But its the back that gets me.wow. Was it a showcase piece?

Why did you choose a maple neck? Padouk, bubinga or canary would havr giben you the same bite of maple but with an imho nicer look (exotic.creative. Unique!) and a much nicer feel than laquered maple.

Re: New Warmoth LP!

Jesus Christ. I'm not a fan of fancy looking tops, but that is seriously boner-inspiring.

Well done, sir. Well done, indeed.

I don't mean the neck joint. I mean where the headstock and the neck meet. My understanding was their necks were one piece not 2 pieces glued together. A lot of Ibanez guitars have it.

Yep! It was a showcase body. It sat in the showcase for a while. I was really nervous about not being able to grab it before I got enough money saved up to make a purchase. But I did :fingersx:

I actually really love the feel of maple myself. I've only owned one exotic Warmoth neck (purpleheart with an ebony board) and the feel was nice, but not for me. I really love the solid non-pourous feel of a maple neck

It's not their honeyburst actually. I sent it to another guy (member on the UnofficialWarmoth forum) and he finished it for me in nitro.

The neck is indeed a showcase item, and I think all are done like this one. At least all the angled Warmoth headstock necks I've gotten have been assembled like this. The grain stands out a little more this way, the only real downside I think.

This body is chambered, and a good thing. It's a little weighty! I'll have to try to weigh the thing sometime soon and see what it comes to. I'd definitely say black korina is a lot like mahogany. Honestly, I would have preferred a mahogany body, but since it was a showcase item I didn't have much of a choice. I loved the top too much to be too worried about that.

I've only played one other mahogany bodied guitar with a maple neck, an old Ibanez RG. I think the RG was a little bit clearer sounding than this guitar, but it also had a Super Distortion in the bridge, so it had a little more oomph in the pickup output.
