Although im sure everyone knows this, but the cable does make some impact on your tone! I got a new planet wave custom cable for my strat ad it soudns great! IT makes everything alot mroe cleaner sounding and alot louder then my old crappy cable that sounded fuzzy with a bad singal that cut. My tone is alot better and i cant wait untll i get a new amp!

Re: New way too inprove tone

good for you, a nice cable does make a huge difference in your sound, that is why i will only use monster cables for audio (even for my home stereo)

Re: New way too inprove tone

The capacitance of the cable resonates with the inductance of the pup, and so the high frequency response really is affected by the cable. The effect of changing the cable can be as large as changing the pup in some cases. This does not mean that one particular cable is necessarily superior to another, merely that it has the correct capacitance for you to get the sound you want. This resonance also means that your tone might change when you reduce the guitar volume control. This is not necessarily bad, but it is an effect that bothers some people.

What do you do if you use multiple pedals? I've made my mini cables out of another cable. Im not going to do it but would you recomend cutting up a realy good cable to get good tone?

Re: New way too inprove tone

instead of cutting up good cable, just get a good spool of quality shielded cable and a few quality plug and youre set. Strip+solder, heatshrink....

I did it the reliable, expensive, and easy way. Buy 6inch Monsters. ;)

Re: New way too inprove tone

The best way to wire up a pedalboard, I've found, is to buy about 5 feet of George L's thin cable and the correct number of angled plugs. You simply measure the distance between your pedals, cut the cable and feed it into the plugs, then tighten the bolt on the plug....no soldering, no hassles. It's also a good idea to use zipties to make all the cable routing nice and neat. The cable is about 60 cents a foot, and the plugs are around $4.50 each. The pedalboard will look 'pro wired' and if you ever change things around, it's easy to redo some of the cabling. I think GC now carries the plugs and will cut you the wire off a spool. Plus, if a cable ever shorts out, it takes 1 minute to fix it.

Re: New way too inprove tone

I've gotta try planetwaves. Maybe I got a bad monster, cause mine buzzes like a mofo, unless I lift it entirely off the ground... pretty annoying, the cheapass cable that came with my takamine acoustic is better. Might have to experiment with cables a bit...

Danglybanger if you have the receipt for your bad Monster take it back to the store and get a new one. Its got a lifetime warranty if you have the receipt for it.

Re: New way too inprove tone

I noticed more clarity in my sound too when I got Planet Waves cables.
Good cables are a must if you are serious about music.

amen. vive le neutrik jacks! :laugh2:

Re: New way too inprove tone

The capacitance of a cable is not such an issue when connecting between pedals and other effects. Reliability and a clean set up are most important. If you are really good at soldering, do it yourself. Otherwise buy short cables.

Re: New way too inprove tone

agreed. 3 sets of 2 cheap short cables will cost as much as 2 expensive short cables in the long run, sound much better, and not break.

knocking together your own leads isnt too bad either - just unscrew the end of one you already have to see what it entails... most guys here have some access to a soldering iron, surely?

i'd rate installing a humbucker way above that of a cable, simply because everything's easy to get to and a set of pliers is really the only other tool you need

(and i install all my pickups. its all part of the experience :))

Re: New way too inprove tone

I have a/b a few cables and the best cable I found was from VOODOOAMPS. It has neutrik ends and is super thick. It does not color your tone like Monster cables and is very sturdy. Check out www.voodooamps.com and Tell Trace that KLINKDETROIT sent ya.

Re: New way too inprove tone

I only use Monster Cables and Planet Waves. Very nice cables!

Re: New way too inprove tone

+1 Monster for Guitar cords and speaker cables. George L's 'do it yourself' cables for pedalboard.

You don't need the receipt to honor the lifetime warranty as ALL monster dealers and monster themselves honor it.
