new weber speakers!! quick question....

Hey guys, i got my Weber speakers and was getting ready to put them into my bassman cabinet... and i realized that all the mounting holes are covered by some sort of material. Is this normal?? What do i need to do in order to clear these spaces out??

I shot an email off to ted weber already, but i don't know how quickly he responds on weekends.

Thanks,
Jason

Really.

What that is is just a little of the surround that kind of over hangs into the screw holes...if you don't wanna do it like I said take a small sharp kinfe to it...either way it has to come out to get the speaker in.

Re: new weber speakers!! quick question....

well, i trimmed them out with an exacto knife and...

the speaker doesn't fit!!!! I dunno what to do with it. The holes won't line up. Its slightly bigger around than the original jensen, and the holes are in just different enough spots that it won't fit on.

And, i had to dig out my british standard sockets before i found the size to take the original speakers out. What a PITA. I thought this was gonna be dirt simple.

no offense taken

i THINK i am?? I don't really understand what there is to mess up with this. its just 8 posts. Now, i think with one of the speakers if i find something that can trim into the thicker beige ring around the speaker, it may open up just enough of the hole to get it on... the other one i'm not so sure about.

i think maybe that beige ring is getting in the way, not just the black fabric-y stuff i already trimmed away. I think i messed the beige piece up a bit trying to get the holes to line up. If i'm able to trim that piece away from the holes a bit, i might be able to make it fit. Is that safe to do??

It appears that the weber speaker is, as a frame, slightly bigger in diameter than the jensens. I think thats the problem, the diameter of the posts that are on the baffle are just slightly smaller than the speaker's holes. The holes on the weber have some 'play room' so to speak, however a little bit of that is covered up by the beige ring.

okay, trimmed it up a bit with the dremel and *barely* managed to get it to fit. Now i just gotta unsolder the other connections and do the other speaker, and probably take the dremel to it as well.

Thanks for your help man.

Anytime bro!

I've never had those type issues with a Weber or any speaker but the important thing is that they are now in!

Let m e know what you think of them

Re: new weber speakers!! quick question....

the amp is GREAT now. couldn't be happier with it. Its substantially louder, which isn't necessarily a good thing for the home use it gets, haha, but i have some lowend beef to go with that great breakup now. Its wonderful!

COOL!

What were the stock speakers and which Webers did you get???

Re: new weber speakers!! quick question....

stock were old Jensen C12NA's. Dunno what the 'A' signifies, but i figure it was like other old C12Ns. So, i got some webers that are supposed to be the closest thing to that, the 12F150. The amp finally has the presence that a 50 watt tube amp should!

A friend of the family who had moved to washington was actually at the house tonight, he's a vintage gear collector, he had a good time checking out the amp. he was amazed at how dirty it would get, haha.

And, i still can't believe that i had to have British Standard size sockets to get the speakers off. I guess i'm lucky my dad has had a few different british sports cars through the years!

Re: new weber speakers!! quick question....

and, for anyone that might care, i've taken some pics!

One Jensen, one Weber. Partway through the install:

Both webers in:

Now, i'm curious, do most cabinets have sperated areas for each speaker like this?

Also, since i've had it the cab has had this stuff in the back of it, all sort of haphazard like. I dunno what effect it would have on the sound, but i went ahead and left it in there.

And, the old jensens getting boxed up and ready to go in the closet:

And finally, the bassman back in its home!

Re: new weber speakers!! quick question....

Most fender cabs have the dividing wall between speakers...Leo liked them bette than way...FWIW, most other 2x12's that I know of do not have the wall in there.

As for the insulation in the cab it aids in making the cab sound bigger and fuller than it would be w/o it.

Nice looking amp for sure!

Enjoy it for a long time to come!
