Just a few tips... a 40- watt iron should do you fine... Any higher and you run the chance of degaussing your pups with the EMF from the soldering iron... Less is more when it comes to solder... Big gobs can lead to a cold solder joint which may or may not work, but if it does, will be noisy... 63/37 is the best solder to use for electronics, if you can't find it, 60/40 will work just fine... I'd practice on spare wires you have until you can get on the wire, add the solder, and get off the wire rather quickly... If you stay on a pot TOO long, you can ruin the pot... Any other questions/concerns, just ask... Someone here will help you with this...
