i haven't seen a newb forum if there is one here so please forgive me. bottom line, i've been playing on and off for 8 years, self taught..no lessons. within the last six months i've really gotten the itch to go beyond where i was.
i've had a stock mexi strat for the last 7 years or so, HSS. which has been fine for my playing..but two days ago the humbucker took a crap after a fall off the couch. the plastic around the pole piece is cracked and i think the coil is broke too. i have basically no output when set on the humbucker.
i'm basically an at home player, i run through a peavey classic 50. play a majority blues soloing, some rock. i know how subjective pickups are and i'm looking at just a jb or a seymour sh-5 at the bridge just for versatility. i'm hesitant at this point to go with a pearly gates, though i want to go with more of a blues sounding pickup. any suggestions.
on a side note..i am confused about the whole pot resistance deal? how will a 250k pot vs. a 500k etc affect sound?
as said, please excuse the newb..i've met few people who's technical advice i believe. the local guitar shops are not one of these yet.
