Newbie Custom SHop question for the WLH

I have 2 guitars with the new SH18 Whole lotta Humbucker pickup, mated with a 59n
1) A all Mahogany Flying V, with a huge neck and 1 3/4 in body thickness. (100 year old mahogany)
2) A 1994 Les Paul Standard (purchased New by me)

In the V, The pickup is Perfect. I have not one complaint. In the Les Paul its a little too bright. I can control it from the Amp, but I change between the two guitars often. I would prefer to not do that if I can....

My question. If I have MJ wind me a WLH about 10 percent hotter than stock, would that move the resonant Freq point down a little more toward the midrange, thus shaving a layer off the high end?

Im sorry if Im not wording this correctly. I hope someone understands what Im trying to say... Lol

Thanks in advance...

Re: Newbie Custom SHop question for the WLH

I'm sure MJ can do it but how she would do that exactly I cant say. Instead of asking her to do something then hoping it gets the result you want its better just to tell her the result you want and she will deliver it. The best thing to do though is to call her directly and she will take care of you.

Wire in a permanent "tone control". It's a bit cheaper and easier than a new pup :)

Speaking of controls, what resistance value are the pots in the two guitars?

Re: Newbie Custom SHop question for the WLH

In the Les Paul its a little too bright.

The same p'up set that works in one guitar doesn't necessarily mean it'll work just as well in another.

First try setting the p'ups closer to the strings, then use the tone pots. After all, that's why they're there for, isn't it? ;)

HTH,

Personally I wouldn't judge an Alnico 8 magnet by your experience with the SH15. The SH15 for me is a dreadful pickup (no offence intended to those who have found a good home for them) however I have found an A8 mag in a Custom (C8) is a pretty good pickup and also a pair of A8s in a P90 Custom also very good. I think if you have an A8 on hand you could at least try slipping it into the SH18. It may just be what you are looking for, it's worth a try seeing as you already own the pickups.

An A8 wont just "shave" off a little high end like he describes in his OP... Sure it will have less high end than the A5 but its also going to come with a big bump in low mids its too drastic of an option for what hes trying to do.

Correct. Ive found the WLH is very specific in what it likes concerning distance away from the strings. I had to play with the height, but I found what was needed.
In my eyes, the WLH is the perfect pickup.

I now just wonder sometimes if a Custom shop version would sound better than the production version.??

anyways, thanks for everyones help. Im good...
