Newbie Post - Bonamassa P/U Experience

Hello everyone - new to the Forum, but have been lurking, searching and learning for some time now. I thought I'd pass along a little tip I've learned from recent experience with the SD/JB Signature pickups. I've read many threads here regarding pickup height and pole piece adjustments, some which touch on the optimal height for both the pickups themselves and the pole screws. Again, from experience, I've learned to treat these adjustments for the SD/JB set just as one would for a real pair of '59s. I've tried many combinations of adjustments, and I've also seen it mentioned here that JB's pups on his '59 LPs appear to be level with the tops of the p/u rings on his guitars. I've found that this approach really works well for these pickups. Seems a little contrary to popular notions regarding p/u heights, but the little extra distance between these pups and the strings really brings them to life (the sound and tone one expects from a superior Signature set like the JBs; and for $).

Just FYI, I have these in a fairly new Gibson LP Traditional Satin Mahogany strung with .011-.048s, running into a Fractal AxeFx using a homebrew Bonamassa preset.

Anyway, that's my grandiose tip - hope others are enjoying these truly dynamic pickups from SD!

Welcome to the Forum! & thanks for the info! I had pre ordered a set of the JB set when they were first announced, but after giving it more thought I realized I didn't have a guitar to put them in. Si I would have had to buy another guitar(that I really don't need) so I canceled my order. Glad they are working out for you.

Thanks for the warm welcome, Bludave! Actually, I was a little concerned with how these pups would get along with the LP all Mahogany Satin, but I've discovered they're quite a good match. I really believe this is the quality of pickup set that one keeps, regardless of the disposition of the guitar in which they happen to currently reside. I may eventually sell the guitar (who around here does that on a regular basis?), but these pickups will stay put and most likely find a home in the next LP, or I might simply purchase another set for the next one!

Thanks again for the welcome!
