Newbie slsmg pickup question

Hi folks, been onthe forum a few times just looking but have now got around to joining.
I have a JB/jazz set in my jackson slsmg (thin mahogony body and neck thru with ebony fret board) and i fing the jb to be too "cutting" is the best way i can describe it.
I play through a marshall tsl in a rock covers band.
I'm keen to get some opinions as to what would sound less harsh with this guitar.
Thanks folks.

Re: Newbie slsmg pickup question

If you want to keep it powerful I'd suggest an A8 in the JB. If you want to mellow it out a tad an A2. I tried an RCA2 and it was lacking bite, go polished.

Re: Newbie slsmg pickup question

Not sure what an rca2 is...sorry! I want to have high output but i would like the bridge to sound a bit more rounded if that makes sense. I tend to be a plug in and play sort of person and don't fiddle too much with eq etc. maybe thats my issue? Anyway i always liked the jb sound samples but i think the ebony board and thin mahogony body is contributing to the really sharp sound.

Re: Newbie slsmg pickup question

You want bigger chords and little more bottom end it sounds like to me, swap it out for a Custom or a Custom/59 hybrid....

If the JB has too much cut for you you probably won't dig the distortion....

Re: Newbie slsmg pickup question

This is what I was thinking. Put the hybrid in the bridge and leave the jazz or switch to a 59 and call it a day

Re: Newbie slsmg pickup question

Thanks folks thats worth a look at. I'll hunt a custom or custom/59 hybrid down and report back in due course.
