Newer country sound

I'm looking for that newer country sound out of my standard telecaster and just something to give me better sound than the stock pickups. The pickups I'm looking at are the Broadcaster, hot tele lead, or vintage tele lead. Heard a lot of good things about the JD pickup but I'm not sure if that's the sound I'm looking for. I like my pickups to be pretty hot. I have only been playing for about a year and a half so need some opinions.

Re: Newer country sound

I'd consider a set of the alnico 2 Antiquitys too...killer pickups.

The alnico 2 JD, IMO, seems to have a slightly hotter tone than the alnico 5 Broadcaster and alnico 5 Vintage Tele lead...and a slightly hotter tone than the Antiquity too.

To me, the JD has it over the Broadcaster & Vintage Lead, and has a little thicker, fatter tone...more of a rock tone, with more pronounced mids.

IMO, the JD has alot of the quack that I associate with a humbucker or P90. Because it's alnico 2, it has less string pull than alnico 5, so I can move it close to the strings and nice fat, bright tone out of it.

Personally, I like the Antquity Tele set and Jerry Donahue better than just about any Tele pickups I've ever owned.
