Newer gibsons/PCB boards

Hey everyone,

So manyof the newer Gibsons seem to have a PCB board mounted inside the control box, with molex type connectors and stuff. For example my budget SG-J I got last year.

Is there anything to look out for if you just rip these out and replace with a traditional wiring harness? Most of the guitars I'd be worrying about would be standard 4 knob, 3 way switch, two humbucker.

Also - does anyone know if the new 2016 gibson USA line is using these same PCB style electronics?

I've taken the guts out of my LP Studio and replaced it with custom wiring, then put the original PCB back multiple times. Never had an issue.

You should be able to put traditional wiring in there no problem; I wonder if it's worth the hassle though.

Yeah, I would be doing it in order to put in different pickups and a push/pull out of phase pot.

If you're okay with the stock wiring and pickups, it's not. If you want to replace the pickups, you could probably get a couple molex connectors for it. Nope I ripped one out of a studio and I'm getting ready to rip one out of a Signature T.
I go with 50s style wiring and Bourns low friction pots. On the studio I reused the selector switch and the input jack. Go with long shaft pots and you should have no problems. The good news is I actually made money by selling the board and pickups. I put in a JB and a 59 and new pots and pocketed about $75 after I sold my old stuff on Reverb. .. It's easy to do. Just drop your new stuff in and use the jack and the switch. You can't go wrong
