The Hartman BC108 for $60 didn't work out, it sold yesterday but I did snag a Hartman Tommy Bolin Fuzz off the bay. Minty fresh and $40 off the new price. Should be cool. Based on the old Sam Ash Fuzzz Boxxx.

Sweet! By far my favourite fuzz!

One thing you should note, however, is that the Bolin is a very low gain fuzz. It's really meant to be used with an amp being pushed to power distortion and cleaned up with your volume control.

The other thing to note is that even tho it is based off of the Sam Ash Astro Fuzz, it's a dead nuts replica of Bolin's own, which probably has its own ideosyncrasies.

If you wanted to goose the Bolin a bit, you can try using a boost after it. Here are a couple of samples I made using the Bolin for colouring, and then boosted it with another pedal.

Bolin fuzz + z.vex SHO



Bolin fuzz + Thundertomate boost



As you can hear, it starts leaving the realm of fuzz and becomes more of an overdrive, which to me defeats its purpose, but to each his own.

Yeah, I got it. I like it but it is not really what I expected. Very bright and kinda thin at times! Almost like a fuzzy treble booster. It's cool though, it sounded great into the Mesa and it sounds really good with the Green Rhino into the twin too. I want to try some other overdrives to see how it reacts with them. I like it so far though.
