NG Gibson SG Gothic

So I purchased this guitar about 6 months ago from a gentleman who went acoustic and now longer needed it. He stated it had been in the gig bag for years and you could tell when he opened it up. He sold it to me as a package of the guitar, gig bag, Peavey rage 158 and stand. Unfortunately do to circumstances with me it sat at my house as I purchased it.

I was finally able to start working on it and put all new electronics in it along with David Allen Powerage pickups in it and a Tusq Xl nut.

I have to say I am loving it but still working on the setting of the Marshall for it. Only thing I am running it through is a Shaffer Replica.

As for the Peavey Rage I have purchased a new speaker for it and since I enjoy tinkering, I will probably be replacing a lot of components on the PCB.

Re: NG Gibson SG Gothic

That's a slick looking SG man, congratulations!!! I love the look of the fretboard with just the single inlay at the 12th fret. Is the board ebony or just really dark rosewood? That should sound killer through a Marshall. If you don't end up meshing with the stock pickups, I'd highly recommend a set of SNS in your guitar, or the High Voltage set from the custom shop. Also, even the 59's have a good rep in an SG. I keep telling myself I really need to get an SG someday.

Congrats again and enjoy tinkering with the sound and the little amp.

I also dig the sparseness of that SG. Make sure to play some Sabbath, for sure.

That looks like a series I Gothic from the early 2000s, and they all had ebony boards.

I'm kind of kicking myself... On CL here a year or two ago a guy was selling a pair of early 2000s Explorers, one red and the other gothic. They had a bit of play wear, but he only wanted $400 each. I keep telling myself I should've bought both and flipped whichever one I liked least. :smack:

I have already took out the stock pickups and put a set of David Allen Powerage ones in it.

I just pulled my 59’s from my Epiphone SG yesterday and they will go into my new Epiphone SG that is on the way and should be here by the end of the week.

As for the question that was asked on if this guitar plays like a “normal” SG, someone with more experience would have to answer that one.
