NGD: 1984 Guild D-17m

The owner of the D-25 wasn't around this weekend and was considerably farther away than the D-17m.

This morning I went and played the D-17m and it had that same sound that I've loved on Joe Pug's albums. It's a little heavy for an acoustic (typical for a Guild from this period) but it's got a big sound. It's also in great shape and I am now it's second owner.

The guy I bought it off of said he bought it to learn but never really did and just held onto it. Looking at the frets, I believe him. The neck is very comfortable, not too thin or thick and the gloss finish hasn't yet felt sticky.

I restrung it with light 80/20 bronze strings and it's still got a very warm sound, very articulate and with a booming low-end when I dig in.

These pictures are from the listing but they'll have to suffice for now.

It doesn't have a pickup but I have a Dean Markely Gold sound hole pickup and may install an L.R Bags down the road.

I worked for Guild for 2 years, and now they are my soft spot. I love 'm. I love that headstock, I love the feel, vibe, tone. My ex nicked my Guild, and doesn't want to give it back.

Apparently this guitar was made on/around February 8, 1984. It turns out if you want to date your Guild, just look at the heel of the neck in the soundhole. The seller thought it was a '85 based on the serial number.

It needed a truss rod adjustment when I first bought it. I restrung it with light strings. I might put 12s on it next time just to see how it affects the volume.

You need to get it back. If she won't give it back report it as stolen property or take her to court.
