NGD: A Quality Strat

I've been thinking about getting rid of my cheaper guitars that I enjoyed but always had some issue I wasn't pleased with or felt something was missing. So I sold my two guitars and got this

A g and l legacy made in the USA. Its white but looks like its aged a bit. Also the matching headstock just makes it that much cooler to me. Pretty sure it's a late 97 model from the serial number (don't want to take off the neck to find out for sure). It feels tremendous and sounds a great Strat should. The tone design is interesting and really helps dial in different tones. Hopefully this honeymoon phase will last, but I know this will be a guitar that I won't trade away or sell for another guitar.
Sorry not sure how to fix the pictures.

Re: NGD: A Quality Strat

I LOVE these G&Ls! I have several Legacys, and two each of the Legacy Special, S-500 and Comanche models; and then a lone ASAT Deluxe.

I used to have a vintage 1960 Strat but had to sell it in 1991. A couple years later went looking for another Strat, found the Legacy, and never looked back. I just started collecting them whenever I found one at a good price. A Legacy is my Number One guitar, and mine are interchangeable to me. I like to gig with a Legacy, and a Legacy Special can backup both my Les Paul and my Legacy.

Other than a full Custom Shop model, these days Fender makes absolutely nothing I want or would buy.

They did three whites: a Pearl White that is slightly iridescent; a stark "Olympic White"; and a creamy off-white called "Vintage White". I have a VW with a tortoise guard, cream plastics, RW board and matching headstock. Gorgeous guitar. These have the G&L CLF-100 vintage alnico pickups, which are really good. Closest Duncans would be the SSL-2s with a RW/RP middle.

Not many techs know how to set up the Dual Fulcrum Vibrato, but you can find the instructions at the www.guitarsbyleo.com Forum.

And I usually "normal" my PTB controls at T=10, B=5 and then set my amp. That seems to give me the most range.

Beautiful guitar, enjoy! And beware....G&Ls can be very addictive!

Wow that's some high praise and I can definitely see it being addicting cause it's so comfortable to play. I tried out those settings and I agree that it definitely works well.

Those are awesome guitars. A good example of improving an idea. Congrats!

Yeah!

When you look at a Vintage Strat, they have some issues for the modern player. The tuners ain't that great. Frets are tiny and bending strings can be difficult due to the small radius fretboard. The vibrato has limited travel, and tuning can be unstable. Pickups are weak. Switching was limited until the 5-way switch became available. Tone controls are limited, with no control over the bridge pickup. Strat-itis. It's probably the single most modified guitar in the world, certainly the most popular.

Many of these mods take something away from Leo's design. Superstrats with HH or HSH pickups and Floyd Rose vibratos...not my cup of tea. But as I played my old Strat, I would always wish for a little change here and there.

And that's what the Legacy does...Leo Fender gave me the EXACT improvements to the original design that I always wished for, without losing the vintage vibe and soul of a great Strat. And the poly finish is easier to maintain and will stay nicer longer, which is a good thing...unless you like relics. But...G&L now does limited numbers of NCL finishes, too.

G&L is a Custom Shop, so you can order a guitar with many, many neck options, paint colors and more. And the quality is superb.

Love these guitars.

Awesome guitars so congrats. I've had 5 G&Ls, gave 2 away - one to my nephew and one to a mate who kept trying to buy it so I just gave up. Two I sold due to the recession along with a few other guitars but all were excellent in every way. I still have one and it's ace, great build, finish and playability. I did swap the bridge pick up for an SSL5 for a beefier sound but that's all. Enjoy the Legacy, love the matching headstock too.

Re: NGD: A Quality Strat

When I played the Music Man Silhouette Special (I think Leo might have had something to do with it), it improved some things about a Strat- better tuners, smaller body, more compact, better contouring. On MIM and MIA Fenders, there are certain things they just won't change, and any new models (not called a 'strat') are ignored by the public. They know where their $ is: an endless parade of new models with slightly different specs borrowed from different eras given new, catchy, marketing-based names.

Re: NGD: A Quality Strat

Again - not a Strat guy. But the ones of those I have played were fantastic. Like them better than Fenders and I can't say why....
