NGD: Ashurbanipal's old Ibanez fever continues

Re: NGD: Ashurbanipal's old Ibanez fever continues

I don't mind that headstock, but for some reason I prefer it in a natural finish:

Someone in the next suburb to me is selling this: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?VISuperSize&item=271190728272. Does the RS315 have photo flame or a proper maple top?

You'd probably like zakk_speed's RG530 then (https://forum.seymourduncan.com/showthread.php?216106-OGD-Saved-from-the-Chipper); I know I do :). I missed out on a red one earlier in the year. It was missing the bridge pu and the route was a bit hacked but otherwise looked good; went for $120 :yell:.

Photo flame? You mean like a graphic? I can't say that I've ever seen such a thing.

That's a flamed maple cap there. The RS315 is one of my favorite guitars. (Two of my favorites, actually!) That ebay page won't load for me, but if you have the chance to get a 315, I say DO IT!!!

Re: NGD: Ashurbanipal's old Ibanez fever continues

That looks awesome! How do you compare it's neck to newer models?

Oops, wrong link. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/ibanez-r...&prg=1006&rk=1&sd=271190728272&#ht_500wt_1209

Sorry, by photo flame I meant just a pretty veneer. They have a proper top, then - that's cool; seems like Ibanez was there before Suhr and Anderson.

So many cool Ibanez guitars, so little $$.

Completely different. Wizard necks are very thin and wider, Roadstar is more like a Fendery C shape with a 16" fingerboard radius. The oil finished neck is the cherry on the cake. You'd probably feel at home on these, given your experiences with Fender.

Measurements (nut and 12th fret respectively). From memory (did it a while back), but it's fairly accurate.
Original/Super Wizard: 43mm/17mm; 53mm/19mm.
Roadstar: 41mm/21.5mm; 51mm/22.5mm.

Re: NGD: Ashurbanipal's old Ibanez fever continues

Jeez that's classy lookin'.

It's like a hot Famke Janssen in guitar form.

Needless to say, I'd fu-... Rock the **** out of it.

Ringwood eh....oh lord that's tempting. Is that your bid?

Re: NGD: Ashurbanipal's old Ibanez fever continues

^^ Nah, that's someone else. Could go for a steal. I'd consider it if I didn't finish mine just now.

:approve:

Was wondering where you got to. You would rock this, I have no doubt; the PAF Pro is a bit snarly/screamy :naughty:.

I think it needs some red to be as hot as Famke, like her red hair phase in X-Men.

Yeah, someone's gonna walk away with a steal on that one.

I'm actually not sure how thick the cap is on my 315's. The finish on the back of both is opaque, so I can't see how many pieces either one is made of without (gasp!) stripping them. But the orange one does have a visible seam/crack near the binding on the bottom of the body that looks like the cap glue line. If so, it's about a 3/8" cap.

@TLD: Nice analogy!

Re: NGD: Ashurbanipal's old Ibanez fever continues

^^ I guess looking in the pu cavity may verify things.

Well, I discovered something interesting when I was doing up the guitar that I didn't know before - that the '86 spec trem arm is different (bottom one in pics), particularly the part that plugs in.

The old arm sits lower on the guitar and feels more comfortable; the modern one is a bit taller and the top half in particular has more of an outward bend. I suppose they redesigned it when trems began to be recessed, so the arm needed to be higher.

9 hours till this one ends. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/ibanez-roadstar-series-two-electric-guitar-/271190728272?_trksid=p5197.m1992&_trkparms=aid%3D111000%26algo%3DREC.CURRENT%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D14%26meid%3D7084629752761126412%26pid%3D100015%26prg%3D1006%26rk%3D1%26sd%3D271190728272%26#ht_500wt_1209
If i wasnt so broke atm i would snipe it. ****ing murphys **** law. Guitars i want/need always show up on ebay when i don't have the funds. 15 electrics is just not enough for one man.

Re: NGD: Ashurbanipal's old Ibanez fever continues

Yeah, we were discussing that one earlier; looks like it's got some DiMarzio in the bridge. I'd snipe it too if I didn't just get mine, though I dislike these pre-Edge trems. It would be a good candidate for a nice refin, with the flame top.

Haha, I've got 3 now and I think it's too many.

I couldn't see anything in that listing talking about the pickup, but that looks like it could be the stock Maxon in there...? If so, it's a killer pickup IME.

I suspect there is probably a nice flame under that finish. I'm not sure I've seen any of that body style that weren't flamed, but you never know what's under that paint until you take out the sand paper.

Kinda hoping a forum bro lands that. Four hours to go...

Re: NGD: Ashurbanipal's old Ibanez fever continues

Stock pu has two height adjustment screws on bass side, this one doesn't; the V2 also has black poles.

Strato, if you're reading, get it! I could pick it up for you :cool2:. The case alone is worth $60-70.

Wow, good eye there! I had to zoom in and squint to see that even after you pointed it out.

Re: NGD: Ashurbanipal's old Ibanez fever continues

Time for a stronger prescription, pops :P.

The purple Roadstar went for $200; pretty good deal still.

How much stronger can it get? I'm already up to this:

EDIT: Look at that bid history, willya? The positive power of sniping... Not a bad price for that guitar.
