NGD: Caught the Reverend Bug

I've been eyeing Reverend guitars lately as the people who tried them seem to really like it. So scanning the guitar center used section online I saw a 2012 Sensei HB model for only 400 with a case. Ordered it without trying it out, which was a first for me. I was really pleasantly surprised when it came. Played really well, the pickups sounded great and the bass contour knob really adds usable versatillity. Plus I really dig the gold sparkle as I've always wanted a gold guitar.

I like the gold too. Not a huge fan of most of the Reverend body styles but do really like the Sensei's. Nice find. Enjoy it.

Very nice! And great price!

I bet the Ha5s are nice, but I would be extremely tempted to try a Railhammer in the bridge cause I love em in the double agent.

I love the sexy quirky designs Reverend has. Truly interesting looking without bring too obvious what they're based on.

I also dig their electronics and pickups. Their Billy Corgan model is amazing.

Re: NGD: Caught the Reverend Bug

Yeah, designs are just a bonus for me. I'm a form follows function guy and if it feels good and sounds good, I don't care what it looks like.

But Reverends feel good and sound good and I like the way they look, so it's all good for me.

Exactly the guitar just feels so natural to play and sounds great. Yeah im low on funds but eventually i may get a hyper vintage set put in to have the official Reverend experience. They have been really peaking my interest lately.

Re: NGD: Caught the Reverend Bug

Are they Railhammer pickups? Sound good?

Re: NGD: Caught the Reverend Bug

I think you either 'get' the Reverend thing or don't. The shapes and quirkiness are not my thing, but others love them, and make them sound great, so I will enjoy them playing their Reverends.

Mincer, have you ever had a chance to play one? I know some guitars just don't fit some people, but I was really surprised when I played my first Reverend.

I wasnt drawn to the look, but the first time I picked one up I realized it is the most "solid" guitar I've ever touched. It's really hard to define solid, you would expect it to feel something like a tele or a strat with 25.5 scale length.

However it somehow feels much more solid and I can't define that or even explain it. Not heavy, stiff might be part of solid, but stiff isnt usually associated with great guitars.

They do have six screws connecting the neck, and I'm wondering if that could possibly have anything to do with it, however it's more likely the wood combination.

Of course, the aspect that slayed me was the tone and I'm attributing much of that to the railhammer pickup in the bridge.

Dude, you are absolutely spot on. It's hard to describe it, but I agree that they have a different more solid feel to them that is pleasing to me. They just feel like they want to be played. And played a lot.

Those railhammer pups are something else, for sure. Especially with that bass contour knob, you can really get a huge number of very useful tones. From the smoothest jazz sound, to screaming distortion. What I found super cool was I playing through a very tame Supro amp. And man were those pups pushing that amp into a nice tube OD, even at lower volumes. It was really sweet.

Re: NGD: Caught the Reverend Bug

I have to admit, I haven't. But the weird retro thing isn't my style. And I am pretty particular about weight, balance, and where the controls are. I'd love to try one, it is just I have to get past those looks. Sometimes guitars surprise me, and I am happy.

Yeah man i feel that especially with these designs. Not too crazy about most of them but really like the sensei and the gold color made me love it that much more. I also think the warhawk 390 looks really cool.

Re: NGD: Caught the Reverend Bug

Just a few days ago I tried this thing and OH MY GOD IT'S SWEET:

flatroc_powder_yellow_close3.jpg

Just felt very well constructed overall, neck and frets were in excellent condition, hardware felt above average for the price, and made all the right noises. Easy to play, looks super cool.

I find it real hard to dislike Reverends at this point.

Re: NGD: Caught the Reverend Bug

That guitar in the OP sure has some quirkiness to it. It has a real retro-vibe to it and I can dig it.;)

Oh ****.

I hadn't seen that before. Single P90, a Wilkinson trem and that funky shape? Plus a reversed headstock? **** me.

I'm so sold.

Haven't played that model... Modern Gretsch tone or something different?

I'm gassing for a 390, but thinking yours may be 2nd on my list.
