So I went on a huge selling spree, sold some pedals, amp and guitar but to afford a fantasy of mine (I know I'm only 18 but hey I can still dream haha) so I scored a Ibanez RG550 in Laser Blue from 1991! I'll show a pic or 2 but check this link for more and higher quality pics! https://flickr.com/photos/121208497@N03/sets/72157661655553966

What do you think? I personally love it and plan to take it for a fret level and set up just after new year!

i had a rg550 in that same color just a black guard. kept the stock v1 and s1 but put a fred in the bridge. loved that thing!

The blue mirror 'guard is an aftermarket accessory.

If I bought a guitar that was four year's older than I am, it would cost more than my apartment.

Great looking RG in my favorite color and the best year as well. I've had a few and the two '91s had the best feeling necks of all of 'em. That's one to keep. Congrats!

Even built a mutt for my son using a modified '91 RG550R Neck and '91 BCR Gunslinger/Assassin Body and '86 White Gold Edge with a Big Brass Block Upgrade and White Gold Tuners/Nut/String Tree...

Are you serious? That's gorgeous!

I love RGs.. I have owned several and have a new 655.
That is a beautiful RG, you did good.

That is pure shred bad@$$edness!!!!!!

As for the setup - get a screwdriver and Erlewhines book and learn your self. No reason to pay for that.

The Fret Level - maybe necessary - or level by playing the bejeebers out of it!

AWESOME!!!! Ive always loved those old Ibanez's 550s and 570s and 770s. (At first I thought your axe was a 770 with the clear p/g) I had a 1990 RG570 that was in mint shape except for oddly enough wear on the neck plate. I loved that guitar, but sold it because I had to reduce inventory and I wasnt playing it as much as some others.. But one day will have another.. Im so tempted to get one of those reissues. Cant think of the model name, but it come in blue and red and has the upside down headstock and single /hum config..

Rock on with that!!

I used to have a 2001 RG570 it had the AANJ but it was still amazing.

Killer :headbang:. That colour is quite desirable among old RG afficionados.

Dude! Welcome to the club! I got a 1990 RG550 in Laser Blue (Loving your pickguard BTW). Yours is a hell of a lot cleaner than mine though haha.

Judging by the lack of fretboard wear (when I post mine you'll see) I highly doubt this thing needs a fret level, but def dig in on the setup or bring it in for the initial...too bad I didn't work up there anymore I'd dial that in for ya.

Unfortunately not since the shop I was at closed down and I do all my own stuff. I only bring stuff I can't do to Ian (Lauzon) or Brian (Folklore) but those guys are high end, and charge as such.

Here's What I'm talking about...this picture of mine shows the 'progression' from 'clean' to 'worn' (not to mention the obvious grime.

Since from your pics your whole fretboard looks like my 10-12, I highly doubt any fretwork is needed.

Re: NGD(couple days old) Ibanez lovers will probably dig!

Nice score! Ahh, I remember my first RG like it was yesterday, well, not really, I bought a new black one in 1987(?) and was older than you are now... Great guitars! I kinda like the original heel joint.

My '87 Rootbeer JEM (that I picked up about 6 years ago for a relative steal) still gets a lot of use, just had to change the pups to black, pink really isn't me anymore ;-)
