NGD: Epiphone Dot Deluxe

Pics forthcoming.

In the meantime, it's a 2007 Tobacco burst Dot Deluxe. It's my first semi-hollow, also first with gold hardware. Sounds great, plays great after some tweaking. The seller had it setup with super low action and almost no relief. My SRV-wannabe right hand doesn't mix with that, so I loosened the truss rod, raised the action, and it plays great. I think it's strung with that weird D'Addario .010-.048 wound G set. I'm gonna redo it .011-.052 and I think it'll play better.

Epiphone has really upped their game with pickups. These aren't the most complex things I've ever heard, but I won't have any problem saving a little longer for gold covered pickups and using these in the meantime. The neck pickup in particular is really nice, and once I've dorked around with the heights and get it restrung, these may end up sticking around for awhile.

I got the thing for a song, and ended up getting a 15 watt Peavey Vypyr with it for next to nothing. The Peavey sounds surprisingly good, especially a clean amp setting with the built in Tube Screamer.

Re: NGD: Epiphone Dot Deluxe

It would seem you need a new camera instead of a new guitar. :p

I am seriously gassing for an Epi Sheraton.

Re: NGD: Epiphone Dot Deluxe

A friend of mine is looking at Gibson and Epiphone semi-hollows, are the Dots a good place for him to start trying them out? What are the Ibanez Artcore 335-esque models like?

Dude I have a version of the DOT
TO BE HONEST...The Dot is truely cheaper than a real GIBBIE ES but Semi Hollows are Rock n Roll machines.
Get Some Expensive vintage style humbuckers like Antiquities , some trick wiring, and a modded Vox AC15 and you too can live in tonal heaven! I believe Gibson/Epiphone makes these guitars to be modded and used as Rock/Alternative/Blues
tools of the TRADE. They are the gold standard. Every person that rocked a strat les paul gibbie or fender makes their way to the mighty ES Semi Hollow Body!

Re: NGD: Epiphone Dot Deluxe

I would say yes on the Dot. My two main players are an '87 American Standard Strat and a '62 LP/SG with real PAFs. I'm not comparing it to junk, and I really enjoy how it plays and sounds. Do I still want a 335? Obviously, but once I give this thing a little TLC, like sanding all the nasty poly off the neck, I think it's gonna be a keeper.

BTW, I restrung it 11-50 with a plain third and it made a world of difference. In the past, I remember saying that a wound third made more sense than a .019 or .020 because the tension was lower. Clearly, I didn't know what the hell I was talking about.

Re: NGD: Epiphone Dot Deluxe

Tobacco burst and honey burst are two of my favorite colors. Can't wait for the pics.

Re: NGD: Epiphone Dot Deluxe

Speaking of which its been like a week....

Getting chilly...did we get Iceman'd???

That's my favorite Epi semi-hollow. All-maple body with laminated maple/walnut neck. Best inherent sounding tonefootprint, and platform for modding. I've modded over a dozen of them, all winners.

If you can find one with "Mickey Mouse" ears, even better.
