Picked this up from GC this weekend - Dave Murray Signature Stratocaster.

Plays great, sounds great - can play any style that you would use a Strat for. Only had it a couple of days but loving every minute of it!

****in eh, congrats. Always wondered why they never offered a Floyd options on those, seeing as how his original had one

Re: NGD (Fender Content)

Thanks Kamanda - from what I've been reading, Fender wanted to stay true to the original before he had the Floyd added. I'm not big on Floyds, so it doesn't bother me that it doesn't have one. As much as I love SD pickups, the pickups in this guitar sound awesome. Nothing else sounds like a Super D!

Re: NGD (Fender Content)

Cool guitar! My favorite "Super Strat" of all time! It makes me sad that he retired it. I'd love to see him playing it and Adrian playing the gold top (and Janick taking a break :D) when they do the early stuff.

It did not! In its "heyday" the guitar was very much an old-school Strat aside from the pickups, and maybe the nut. In the Rainbow film it looks like he might have had an aftermarket or '70's Fender vibrato (hard to see for sure), but it was still vintage style in it's design. Later on, the guitar had a Kahler installed, and when he did that, I believe that he also swapped the neck for one with a rosewood board and a Kahler string lock.

I thought the Kahlerized version was a separate guitar. Remember on LAD swapping between the 2 versions. My memory might be faulty, tho.

Re: NGD (Fender Content)

Thanks all for the positive feedback! I traded in a Gibson Explorer that I wasn't feeling anymore and with 10% off for the trade in I basically got it for $20 out-of-pocket. Couldn't pass that up!

It's hard to keep them all straight. It may be that the rosewood-necked one is a different guitar with the same pickups. But I haven't ever seen him with a guitar that was black/maple HSH with a Floyd.

A black Fender guitar with DiMarzios? A man after my own heart. That Strat looks great! I've seen the model before but I guess I saw the Floyd in my mind, I could have sworn it came with one installed.

Thanks astrozombie! Like I said, I'm usually a full-on SD user, but the Suoer D and 36th Anniversary pickups sound great in this guitar. The middle single coil also works great for cleans!

Re: NGD (Fender Content)

That's a cool Fender sig model. Isn't it $1750 new? How'd you get such a good trade value? Was it used?

The guitar was new - listed for $1650. I got $1400 for my trade-in plus 10% off. My boy at GC ran the numbers and came back and asked if I could give him $20; like I said, couldn't pass it up. It had been sitting in the store for awhile, so I think they were willing to knock off a few bucks.

The Super Distortion is a great pickup in Fender style guitars, I find it adds bass and mids to my sound, the mids are always welcome and the bass boost is nice, I've known fenders to have a pretty "round" sound with humbuckers but they lack low mids, the bass boost kind of helps.

Re: NGD (Fender Content)

Jealous jealous jealous.

I've always wanted one of those, but I've kinda put together my own black Strat with DiMarzio humbuckers in it. I've never even seen one of those in a shop though, would love to play one at some point.

Re: NGD (Fender Content)

Awesome pickup! What a beautiful guitar.

The Super Distortion is a great pickup in Fender style guitars.

I have my tele ready for paint right now and then there is a SD going in the bridge. I have my fingers crossed for great tone.
