On Saturday I did a thing. I didn't think I would get another one but in the back of my head I'd been trying to find one that matched, or exceeded, the '91 American Standard that I had about 20 years ago and sold because I thought it was the neck making my wrist hurt. Turns out it was my wedding ring being too tight. Yeah, wish I figured that out BEFORE I sold it. Anyway, it was one I bought of XSSIVE (remember that guy?). None that I had since matched it. Parts Tele morphed in to my Tao Turquoise Warmoth Strat. The watch continued.
Decided I was going to sell my bass head/cabinet and a few pedals to make it happen. Hadn't been using them anyway. Saw this Nashville Tele on a local shop's site last week so I went and checked it out. It had been there a while but it didn't catch my eye because I honestly wasn't looking at a Nashville model. Well, the price dropped so that caught my eye. Sold it all at gc for what I wanted (knowing full well it would be less than what I had it all listed for but made an absolute lowest I would go number). Got the cash and back to the other store...LOL. Made an offer on the Tele and got it for less than what they had it priced at. Less than $100 out of my pocket on top of the cash on-hand from the gear sale.
I have to say, after I played it a few times at the store, it blew me away. It has "it". Feels fantastic, plays fantastic (they set it up great), sounds amazing. It's a 2018 Deluxe Nashville Telecaster, white blonde finish (kinda transparent), maple fingerboard (12" radius), black pickguard, sculpted heal. The previous owner swapped the bridge pickup for a Custom Shop '51 Nocaster pickup and it is amazing. The neck and middle pickups are still the stock noiseless vintage and sound really good on their own. The locking tuners were also replaced with regular staggered Fender tuners as well as the strap buttons to some straight T looking things. Never seen them before. No biggie there. The tuners are fine and the strap buttons hold a strap good and snug. Weight is right at 8 pounds and the on-shoulder balance is better than I've experience with Teles.
The only things I did with it when I got home was checked all the screws to make sure they are snug, checked relief, intonation and action, all of which are fine, and adjusted the neck and bridge pickups a little bit. It's so solid I decided to use at church service yesterday morning and it sounded great. I really like the 5-way switching on it. This Tele can really do everything. The Nocaster pickup sounds great with drive and a nice big spanking Tele sound when clean. It's not overly bright at all, which I like. The neck pickup alone is really nice. I may change it to the '51 Nocaster neck down the road but in no hurry. Yup, I think I found the keeper (at least I hope so).
This is a stock photo. I'll have a few of mine when I get some time to take them and resize for upload.
