Ngd Gibson Les Paul Standard

Re: Ngd Gibson Les Paul Standard

That's why I like the Custom so much. It's in the PAF vein, so it can pull off classic sounds, but it's got enough snarl and bite that it'll do modern metal with ease. Heck, Ola Englund loves 'em.

And for the neck, there's several ways to go. I just feel that the Jazz is a better match for the Custom. But I have a Pearly Gates paired with my other Custom in my Epiphone Les Paul Custom. It's a little too wooly for the Custom, imho. But I may try a magnet swap before I swap it out for something else, because the PGn is a truly great pickup.

Custom + Jazz = WIN.

I've been rocking that combo in my Explorer since 2003 or so.

Re: Ngd Gibson Les Paul Standard

I'm using a 59/Custon hybrid bridge and Jazz neck in a newer Lester I bought. It is a good combo for rock from Humble Pie type blues based hard rock to at least Ace Frehley distortions. Probably, more but I almost always stick between those limits, tending toward the Pie end of sounds.

Sweet looking Lester, congrats! I like a pickguard, generally speaking, but I've not had one with beautiful wood such as yours. I'd pull it off.

Re: Ngd Gibson Les Paul Standard

I have a custom 8 paired with an a2 pro in my other main guitar for this, I love that setup for these songs. For this I was heavily considering getting a holeshot Dd 5, which is an overwound custom with triple ceramic mags and a black winter neck.

Re: Ngd Gibson Les Paul Standard

If you are going that way - may I simply suggest the Distortion Mayhem set???

Re: Ngd Gibson Les Paul Standard

Or the Alpha and Omega set? To my ears, the demos sound like a meaner version of the Custom/Jazz combo.

Re: Ngd Gibson Les Paul Standard

+1 for no guard.

I hate to break it to you, but 8.5lbs is on the lighter end of things for Les Pauls. I managed to get my '01 LP Standard Plus down to roughly 8.5 with a lightweight tailpiece and a few other hardware swaps. The '77 LP Custom I sold was 10.5.

It’s spec’d at 6.5lbs so 8.5 is pretty good for a weight relieved standard.

If you are going that way - may I simply suggest the Distortion Mayhem set???

I have a mayhem set in my 7 string Les Paul and my SG custom, and a distortion/ full shred hybrid set I made in a my Schecter. And a TbPa2 distortion set in my sterling axis copy.

I haven’t seen much on the alpha/omega set yet, I am interested. Still need to try this nazgul and a handful of Dimarzio‘s in my drawer.

Anyway now with black winter’s:

I traded the black screws for chrome ones in my hybrids because that has all smoked chrome hardware. I added the chrome covers and wired it in.

I need some more time with it, just checked to see if it works but the neck sounds great and those splits sound much better.
