I've wanted one of these ever since I was in high school. Recently got a new job and sold one of my other guitars so I decided to go for it. 2014 Ibanez Artist AR720 - real maple cap, flame maple veneer on top of that, mahogany body, maple 3 piece neck, ebony fretboard, abalone inlays body and neck and Super 80's Flying Fingers pickups, Tri-Sound Switching. I'm usually a super strat guy, but wanted a good LP type in the stable.

Nice. That is an incredible guitar.

A local store has started carrying the Ibanez models. They are impressive. Really, I'm tempted to get a new one. The quality on those guitars is outstanding for the price.

Could you post your impressions of the pickups? What are the SD pickups that you believe they are closest to?

Thanks, CS! I'm a fan of crunchy type humbuckers and the Super 80's are...not crunchy. Might be tasty for players who like a brighter PAF sounding tone? That being said they're well-loved by many folks and go for $150 or so on 'The Bay. Here's the spec sheet on them. EDIT: should add that I find the neck pickup is very nice so far for LP lead tones, and the tri-sound switching is very useful to bring more clarity in that position if you want it. From creamy LP neck tones to very tight LP neck tones.

The Super 80's are a fairly high output, ceramic mag pup. I would guess the closest would be the Custom

Looks top notch. Alway liked and a couple of the late 70s/early 80s ones and they were quality built and great players. Congrats and enjoy it!

Congrats!!! Played one of those the other day at my local shop. was quite enjoyable. (diff pickups tho) Small detail, but I like the engraving on them..

Nice score. I looked at a vintage Artist at the Portland Guitar Show last week; the GAS was strong but I had to leave it.

artists are top guitars and ibanez have done quiet a good job with those pickups too (them being ceramic magged).

Great looking guitar. Enjoy it well. I have owned a couple of 1978 Artists over the years. Solid guitars.

Owned a couple of Artists over the years and regret selling them.
First one was late 1970's AR 300 in Cherry sunburst flame that I sold to a band mate at the time. Had A8 super 70's in it from the fatory but was loaded with a Custom custom/ aII pro when I sold it. GREAT player!!
Last one was Prestige AR 2000 and was drop dead gorgeous!! Just a work of art and was so pretty I was reluctant to play it out so when I was offered 3X what i bought it for i jumped.
