NGD Ibanez RG550

My new RG550 arrived this week and I found some time to upload photos. The build quality is immaculate and it has one of the nicest necks I've played. I love the necks on Japanese made guitars. It even arrived mostly in tune and setup. Someone made sure it left the factory with perfect action and I only needed to apply my usual dose of chapstick to the trem posts and did a minor intonation adjustment. The color is neon purple and I tried to capture the way the color shifts from almost burgundy to bluish purple as the light hits it. It has an original Edge trem and all the wiring is very tidy. She plays like a dream and fast legato and sweeping are almost effortless. The stock Ibanez pickups are ok but not the best I've played. I'm enjoying playing them for now but will likely upgrade in the future.

This is my second attempt at posting this NGD thread, since the first thread was trolled by a forum member that just wanted to bash RG550s and cause arguments. It was all too negative so I deleted the thread. Please guys if you have negative comments please keep to yourselves, and if you like Ibanez's I hope you enjoy. Cheers.

That is freaking awesome Bro!!! First, I love the 550s and second, I LOVE that color!! Congrats!!

I had a purplish colored (was lighter and cant think of the official name) 570 that shifted colors like that. was killer and still hate having sold it..

Amazing guitar. I'd like to see (I mean own!) one in a moss-green to acid-green shifting finish!!!

Do you know exactly what neck-carve it is? (maybe HP-wizzard?)

That's amazing man. I used to own an RG1550 and I ****ing hated it, only because of the Edge Pro trem which yours doesn't have. I also discovered that slightly pointy Superstrats and floating trem systems just aren't my thing.

I had both a Dimarzio Breed and a JB in the bridge in mine, and both kicked ass. Yours is definitely a better instrument than mine was. I suggest 100% installing a Tremol-No. Super easy mod that doesn't require drilling and adds a lot of functionality and dependability.

Enjoy!

Congrats! Here's my (2013) 550 with Gravity Storm, just so you know that I am not a 550 hater...lol:

It's a Super Wizard 5 piece maple walnut. I think it's supposed to be like the original 80s profile but with the modern 5 piece construction for added stability.

Thanks for all the comments guys. I had this one on pre-order for a few months since I saw them announced at the NAMM show and they are just becoming available in the US. Ibanez has been very smart with the Genesis series since they kept the price point below $1000 for a made in Japan guitar. Yes it doesn't come with a case or DiMarzio's but instead they invested everything into the craftsmanship of the guitar. Besides most of us change the pickups in our guitars (sometimes several times!). I am so impressed with the neck, on other guitars with a skunk stripe or multi-piece construction you sometimes feel the slight difference in texture between the different pieces of wood. This one is completely smooth and kind of addictive to play. Interestingly it came in a Prestige series box.

I traded an original that I had slated for a Vai project. It went towards a 73 Les Paul, so no tears lost. Still....sweet guitar.

Neat guitar! It looks like it could use a set of Shop Floor Custom Pegasus/STK-S4/Sentient in bright purple.

Re: NGD Ibanez RG550

I had/played a ton of RG470/550/570s way back when. I sold a MIJ 470 and MIJ 7420 to buy a Charvel Model 6. The Model 6 was sweet, but I miss the RGs more.

You might kick around getting an old V7/V8 pickup set, just to get the original experience. Or maybe those were V1/V2... whatever. Just play the thing :)
