NGD - Ibanez RGD 7421 Seven string mayhem

Hey Boys, here it goes with the pics! ;)

It really is a bad boy and I really love my first 7-string guitar, nice specs (26.5 scale lenght, maple/walnut neck, basswood body, gilbraltar bridge, etc) and well built. I only spotted 2 frets edges in the fretboard that look odd but I'm not expert... Other than that for 539$+tx it is awesome! I did not have time to play it A LOT yet since it is brand new but as for now the neck pickup delivers nice clean tones and the bridge gives a nice attack to my picking.

Although I have a little intonation problem on the lower registers...
The real probleme is String gauges... it is strung up factory with 10-59 and the lower strings are quite floppy in standard with the 7th string to A (Drop A). No shops carry bigger single strings than 60 so I'm a little messed up. I'm thinking about going with a 8 string set 10-64(7th)-74(8th).

How have you seven stringers figure out a string set that works for you?!

I'm just finished tuning the intonation and now I simply can't stop playing it, every thing I play is so groovy it is driving me insane! Haha! I have back problems (And I am only 19, good job bro) so I stood up to play cause I could no longer stay sitted and OMG the body is so perfectly balanced and carved. I'm a happy man.

The guitar looks fat on the pictures haha

Congrats man!
Since 2009 I've been primarily a 7 string player.
As for strings, just get some online. A 64 will be perfect, so just buy a ton of those in bulk if you can.
When I still had a 26.5 inch scale 7 string, I use to use a 59 for the 7th string (tuned B standard) and it worked out fine.

I am normally not a fan of having fat strings for having fat strings (I use 10's on my PRS SE when in standard)

For this Ibanez the tension for the 3 plain strings feels really good to me, it is only the wound strings that feel spaghetti like when chording and riffing for some reason. I made my researches and I found out some Dunlop Heavy Core that goes 10-13-17-28-38-48-60 so I want to try that maybe.

Do you guys know a nice reliable canadian web-company where you can buy guitar related things? Musicien's friend won't ship to Quebec and so do a few big centers...

Thanks guys! Barry White made me laugh hard! :friday:
