NGD: Les Paul for pro-typing pickups

This is the exact one I bought. An Epiphone Les Paul Standard in Trans Blue Burst. I got it because I need a humbucker equipped guitar to use for testing out new pickup builds. I need my HH Tele for practices and shows constantly, so this way I won't have to worry about if I have time to rip out my regular pickups or not. When I'm not testing out protypes, I'll probably have some wind some Burstbucker 1 & 3 type pickups for this guitar. I'm pretty excited for it to get here next week!

Dude who has the prototyping Les Paul?
Where the pickups mount from the rear

I love the color! Only thing I would change would be the amber tone knobs...chrome or white/parchment/cream to match either the hardware or the rings and pickgaurd...but I am really OCD about that sorta thing. lol Congrats and enjoy!

I'm usually really OCD about that too. I've painted magnets black to match color palettes, hah. In the photos I think "white knobs would look better" but am worried that might be a bit gaudy. I'll see how it looks when it gets here.

You means this one :cool2:

 Its not THAT hard to swap out the pickups on a Les Paul. I'm curious just how much time that thing really saves.

Ha! The amber ones look gaudy to me ;) lol Its a personal preference thing though–I think creme/white would look best but its not my guitar ;)

And I would think the best thing for sustain would be to have the pickups mounted into the body...that design looks like it would hinder sustain IMO...

Re: NGD: Les Paul for pro-typing pickups

Now you've got me looking at both of them as gaudy, haha. Hmm.

Haha! Oh dear! Not my intent! lol I've always loved that blue (blue is my favorite color) I just never understood the amber knobs...doesn't appear to match anything on the guitar itself. Chrome would match the hardware and white/cream/parchment would match the pickguard and pickup rings AND the toggle switch on the pickup selector...

EDIT: I love the look of the knobs, just wish they matched the color scheme

Re: NGD: Les Paul for pro-typing pickups

I'm ordering some white and cream knobs. For the pickups I also am not sure yet if I want to do white, cream, or covered. I'm leaning towards covers for now. The guard might stay or go, I'm also not sure on that yet either.

And just wanted to say, sorry man–I came across as bashing your guitar...totally was not my intent. I'm very OCD about colors and all. I had actually looked at almost the same Les Pauls before and I always said the first thing I'd change would be the knobs.

But really dude, its a beautiful guitar and I've been very pleased with the Epiphones I had in the past. I hope you get a lot of good use and enjoyment out of it!

No need for apologies! If everyone liked the same exact guitar aesthetic, then there would only be one guitar design!

either way they are suspended from the pickup ring
not mounted directly to the wood

Excellent point! I just didn't want to come across as raining on your parade!

But they are mounted into the actual body of the guitar, not something else sliding in and out of the...there goes my argument lol ;)

Re: NGD: Les Paul for pro-typing pickups

I think the amber knobs pop on that blue top. Point/counterpoint with the chrome hardware and the blue top. Nice grain pattern too. That thing screams for a WLH set.

Edited for truth!!
