Thinking about throwing some noiseless single coils in this, what do you guys think? It's a HSS route though :(

I paid $65 at the local pawn shop. Some poor bastard sold this gem and I saw my old black Ibanez there which I may buy back with birthday money.

So, you prefer black over pink.

It actually plays like a dream. No joke. Excellent action and very easy to do vibrato. Plus through a decent amp actually sounds good

HSS routing doesn't matter unless you are wanting regular sized HH or HHH. Throwing noiseless single coils is not recommended though ;)

How much will they cost you down here in Australia ? I'm going to guess three to four times what the guitar cost ?

It's quite possible that the guitar might benefit more from a decent set of tuners before anything else.

The tuners are fine on it, actually. It holds tune very well for a $65 black beauty. I'm going to do an Alvin Seville replica guitar with the flames. It's the right guitar for it.

Given what you paid for it, I'd say you can't lose! Experiment away!

Damned by faint praise, methinks.

An instrument either holds tune or it does not. There are no allowances to be made on this point. Purchase price is not a consideration.

OK, I'll be "Old Man Logic" here. If you are determined to throw money at it,you're better off GFS-izing it, rather than Seymourizing it.
Buy a scratch plate and load it with cheap arse pickups and any science experiments you want to perform on the wiring. This way when you move to a better quality instrument, you can swap in the whole deal.
This axe is the perfect candidate for LO BUCK butchery. Use it to learn to solder,do neck and fret work, practice your painting ,whatever you want, but ,seriously, dont pour money into it. It will probably never sound great, but you can go the hack without throwing your $$$$ down the dunny.

Well, I want Seymour Duncan pickups in it as it is going to be a versatile live axe. With a coil tap on the bridge and neck single coil sized humbuckers, a blend pot and a neck always on switch, and a bridge always on switch when in the middle or neck-middle positions, Dunlop Straploks and I may as well splurge on new tuners as well, so it can still hold tune like it does, but with a better turning ratio. and I might as well add a brass nut for more sustain, as I already got rid of the backing plate.

+1

Seriously, Nathan. How many of these bargain beauties do you currently own? Do yourself a favour. Add up what you paid for all of them. (Include the cost of any aftermarket pickups or hardware.) Chances are, the sum total could have bought you one respectable electric guitar that would serve you for years to come.

Tell yourself that you are worth it.

Well, it feels like an alder body, so it must be alder. it is solid wood unlike some guitars I have owned.
