This guitar was posted on one of the Facebook buy/sell/trade pages i frequent. I offered him a the fully upgraded Mexican Strat, which i had posted on here and he accepted with a little cash from me. I am very VERY excited i picked this up. It needs some minor work, but overall, its in fantastic shape. Tone and play-ability to match
This is an Edwards John Sykes model Les Paul Made in Japan. This thing even feels like a true Gibson, especially with the ebony fretboard. Just fantastic. The frets could use a level/crown but they have tons of meat left on them. The previous owner took the pickguard off and forgot to ship it, but it will be in the mail tomorrow he said. Has the Duncan Distortion Mayhem set, which i am actually quite surprised by. The neck pickup is a bit too high output but it does have a much better tone than i was expecting. However, i will probably be replacing it with something down the road.
I will be replacing the nut (brass-this one is shot), output jack, pots (CTS 500k tone and volume), maybe some bumble bee caps, knobs (like the originals-this are some **** replacements), and real metal chrome'd pickup rings.
Here it is in its current state. I did removed the pickup logos to make it look more like the true Sykes Les Paul. Gave it a good polish as well. Needs a setup (minor), but overall this thing impressed me a ton. Very glad i made this trade.
I could go 2 routes with this thing. Chime in if you have an opinion/idea. First is install the 80s Gibson Dirty Fingers pickup i have lying around and the other is to replace the pickups with nickel covered SH-15 Alternative 8 in the bridge and a MJ-wound mildly-potted Seth Lover with somewhat relec'd nickel cover. thoughts?
