NGD: My Nw 52

I bought myself a present last week in celebration of landing a new job after two years (I was working, but not doing what I wanted to do). After several weeks of trying out guitars at my local Guitar Center, I decided on a new 52 Tele Reissue and I'm glad I did. This guitar is beautiful! I love the feel and sound (Except I hate 60 cycle hum. More on that in a minute.). The finish, especially the neck is stunning. I was surprised at how heavy the tweed case/guitar combo is, though. Should build up my arms nicely hefting that thing around.

Normally I mod all of my guitars pretty heavily. This one I have decided to keep basically stock with a few (for me) improvements. Since I hate 60 cycle hum, I have ordered a set of Seymour Duncan Vintage Stack noiseless pickups (All of my other guitars have either Humbuckers or noiseless pickups). They should be here next week. I have rewired the guitar in the modern scheme, except I have the tone control set up with the Greasebucket circuit (I put it on all my Fenders) along with vintage 50's tone control hookup to the volume pot. Makes for a much better sounding tone circuit (to me anyway) with less loss of highs as the volume control is rolled down. I am also replacing the Oak-Grigsby pickup switch with a 3-way CRL switch (I think the CRL is better built than the O-G), and I've installed a mil-spec Switchcraft phone jack ( I use them in all my guitars. Much better grip on the plug.). I also will be installing a set of Callaham compensated saddles.

Oh, since I name all my guitars, this one's name is "Butterbean". Here she is:

And my entire Fender family from left to right:

Butterbean, Blues Deluxe Reissue, Big Red (modded MIM Standard Strat), Frontman 25R, Buttercup (highly modded Squier "Nocaster").

Welcome! congrats on the job AND the axe! May they serve you well for years!
Sounds like great mods!
This place is turning into a tele forum!
Is the callaham bridge that much of an improvement? I have a nice Squier tele.

Re: NGD: My Nw 52

Those guitars are just spectacular Congrats! there is a AV52RI, and a HR52 at the local shop. I don't go near them because of the power of awesome that permeates the soul when I get close. It has a tendancy to open up the wallet.

Thanks. Well, the job has to last at least another 10 years so I can retire.

I'm an electrical engineer by degree and a systems engineer by profession. I have to tinker with and mod everything!

Don't know how much of an improvement the Callaham saddles will be. I only bought the saddles ($37.00). I ordered them from Acme cuz that's where I buy most of my switches and caps from. Buttercup (My Squier Nocaster) uses a 6-saddle bridge with stainless steel saddles from GFS.

I tried the HR52 and didn't like he mini-humbucker. It wasn't worth the extra $200 over the 52 RI.

Re: NGD: My Nw 52

This will probably get me banned, but I noticed in the photos of the Seymour Duncan Tele bridge Vintage Stack Noiseless, that it said "Seymour Duncan" on it. Is there anyway to remove the name? I prefer the look of the guitar to stay mostly stock.

Wow, man. Way to completely out-do me and my new little Mexican. :p

Just kidding. That thing's freakin beautiful. Congrats. :beerchug:

The logo shouldn't be too hard to remove. I've heard that toothpaste or any other mild abrasive should work. Also it'll make it smell great.

Hey, nothing wrong with Mexican Fenders. My Strat is a made-in-Mexico Standard Strat. I put Schaller locking tuners, Fender SCN pickups, and several other things on it and it sounds fantastic. My Squier Nocaster is an Affinity I got for $85 and modded extensively. Its what made me decide to by the 52 Tele rather than a Les Paul, which I briefly considered.

Good to know about the toothpaste. No cavities. :laugh2:

If you hate 60 cycle interference so much, move to the UK. Sixty cycle will be banished (only to be replaced by fifty cycle). :D

Could be worse, I guess. You ever have the enjoyable experience of hearing a 400 hz generator as used in aircraft power supplies? They'll drive you nuts in a few minutes.
