Fine Gentlemen of this distinguished forum, I once again submit for your viewership & comment, this YouTube vid I made. It merely spells out the magic formula of cranking power tubes & PAF pickups as major ingredients in the classic Van Halen tone recipe.

I tried this before, but realized my rosewood neck Asian Charvel didn't cut it in my last vid, so I splurged on the black Sterling AX40 with it's wonderful unfinished maple neck. The first pickup I tried didn't grab enough low end, so it eventually occurred to me to use my Pearly Gates neck pickup in the bridge with an Alnico 8 magnet.

When I was researching EVH pickups awhile ago, I ignorantly disputed his sound was attainable thru ordinary PAFs. I was wrong & I apologize to those who were kind enough to volunteer this info. Now I get it. There no "best" VH pickup, it's a matter of being compatible with the guitar in which it goes. So start by trying the PAF type that's closest within reach.

As it turns out, PG-n:8 imparted alot of chunk that was missing. However it is screwed very close. If I replace it with a PG-b:8, I'll screw it lower for more ring & bite, but hopefully it will have as much bass chunk as the PG-n.

Thanks for watching!
