NGD: Samick/Meriken ES335

Picked this up on Yahoo Japan auctions over the weekend during their most recent "anybody can bid over $50" promotion.

The headstock reads Meriken by Samick. From what I can tell, the Meriken line is all 50s and 60s styles. I've seen White Falcon and Rick 325 copies as well. This one was $125 plus another $20 for shipping.

It's definitely playable, but the pickup rings and pickguard are a little too gaudy for my tastes. I'll probably replace them with cream. Not sure what the knob is on the lower bout, since I don't have an amp handy.

The nut width is considerably narrower than I'd like, so that'll be something to work on.

Gaudy? It's trying to resemble a Gretsch and it hasn't even got a Bigsby.

The control knob on the upper bout is a master volume or tone. (Depends how true to Gretsch eccentricity Samick has been.)

Splash out on a TV Jones Classic (Filter'Tron clone) pickup or two.

Interesting hybrid and you still have enough budget to splurge on a set of TV Jones.
