I've actually had this guitar for about 2 months. I was a bit dissapointed in it so I boxed it up and intended to send it back, because I was unhappy with the sound of the full shred in the bridge. It was really dark and smooth, which is not typical of a full shred. Long story short, I removed the tone pot, and the pickup opened up like crazy.
I have a few guitars, a Gibson LP studio, LTD EC-1000, and a few upper end Agiles. This Schecter has BY FAR the best feeling neck I've ever played. The neck is thin, and satin'd at the factory. It feels even better than scotchbriting a poly neck by a long shot. The action is nice and low, with no major buzzes and 0 dead spots. Beats all my other guitars in the playability department. The ebony board appears to be polished and has the tightest grain of any of my ebony equipped guitars. This guitar is a joy to play.
Compared to my other guitars, this thing is featherlight. A very comfortable body to play sitting or standing, as the body contours fit excellently and the weight of the body feels like nothing, especially with a padded leather strap.
The finish is PERFECT. The flame top looks great, and the blue burst on the back and neck just adds to the overall sex appeal. The black binding on the neck body and headstock is very well done with no visible rough spots and the binding corners meet up very well.
Tonally, this guitar sounds great. I prefer the brightness that the maple neck adds and the snap of the Ebony fretboard to the mahogany neck and rosewood board of my very similar EC-1000, which also has a full shred in the bridge.
As I stated the guitar had a peculiarly dark sound from the factory. Once i removed the tone pot and the guitar really came alive. Tonally its a tad brighter than my EC but has a fuller sound to it at the same time. Very traditional LP sound. I play in D standard and drop C and this guitar never gets muddy with the full shred in the bridge. Has a nice bite in the top end and a gritty twang that makes it sound really mean. I play througha typical metal/hardcore rig. Peavey 6505 through a mesa Oversized cab, Maxon 808 out front and BBE sonic maximizer in the loop. It sounds bright and full, and mean as hell. Def prefer the sound to my other EMG loaded guitars for metal, but then again, I dont really like EMG's much to begin with.
All in all, a great guitar that came set up well and had 0 flaws. It needed a little bit of personalization, but its not Schecter's fault I remove the bridge tone pot from all my guitars.
Now on to the PRON:
