What's up bros!

Been a while since the last one but finally got a new piece in. A new GC just opened up and I found this in the used section:

1998 Eric Clapton Strat in Olympic White - has the TBX tone control and the mid-boost. She might end up being the one to grab when I can only grab one!

Cool - I just listened to cream this morning too!

I've been listening to a lot of Clapton since I got this beast - now I finally understand how EC gets all those different tones out of tweed amps and no (visible) pedals. Between the TBX and mid-boost, I can get all the sounds I like and then some!

Re: NGD (Strat Content)!

That`s a nice looking Strat for sure! The pickguard goes well with the Olympic white and the all-maple neck. It looks very stylish.;)

Thanks for all the love guys!

I did some research and I think the previous owner changed the pickguard because these come with a 1-ply guard that tends to buckle. I put regular Strat knobs on - had metal knobs when I got it(?!), worse yet, they were metric so all the pot shafts were bent. We all know that feeling of trying to unbend one of those without breaking it!

Something might have shifted with the neck or the guard was installed out of line. Those are the problems I experiences with the 1 ply guards. Just sayin'. My Clapton did just that - I trimmed mine, only to realize the better way of resolving was to fix the neck pocket.

The TS guard does look quite spiffy on that Strat tho'.

The pickguard on my '52 AVRI Tele buckled quite significantly just last week, so I had to loosen the PG screws so that it can loosen out flat again. The pickguard is made of bakelite so I don't know exactly how sturdy that is compared other plastic PG's. The pickguard only has 5 screws while the more modern Tele PG's have 8 to hold it down better. Those 1-ply pickguards on reissue Stratocasters have 8 screws while the more modern 3-ply have 11...which I think makes a difference. I knew one, amazing guitar player who had a reissue sunburst Strat w/ maple neck and the old 8-screw pickguard. He also had the chrome control knobs on his which I had mixed feelings about and I didn't really bond with that look...but to each his/her own.;) I have the say one thing...the pot shafts on Gibson guitars break real easy like rock candy. I'm surprised how easily they break when I try to bend them out ever-so-slightly...it's amazing how Gibson cheaps out on some of their components, but yet they charge exorbitant prices on most of their axes. The look on your guitar looks perfect, like it was meant to be. Tortoise shell pickguards look ultra cool and they give any guitar loads of style.;)
